Mathilda or Matilda

AND -

Middle name ideas?

Mae is out because of political reasons (my husband's stepmother's middle name and that would not be okay with my husband as it would hurt his mom's feelings) - but it sounds sooooo cute. And it's the only name I can think of that would work...

I prefer Matilda but I think both names are equally pretty. As for middle name ideas, well, a lot of the ones I can think of sound rather plain, but sound good with it.

Matilda Ann/Anne
Matilda Jane
Matilda Lynn
Matilda Rose

Those are just some examples--I think that you need a short and simple middle name to go with Matilda. Mae does sound good, but if you can't use it, then another short name like that would work.

Matilda, personally.

I was also going to suggest Matilda Lynn and Matilda Jane, so I'll try to come up with some others

Matilda Jean
Matilda Cate
Matilda Eve
Matilda Beth
Matilda Blake
Matilda Grace

Matilda. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure that everybody would look at Mathilda and know how to say it. The H looks too out of place.

I would definitely say go with a short and sweet middle name, but nothing too common. Matilda Rose or Grace is probably pretty popular.

Mathilda. I love it with the 'h' (I also love Mathilde) but I hate it spelt Matilda!

Matilda; I agree that the 'h' looks out of place.

I've considered Matilda Juliet.

I love Matilda. I think it's a beautifully old-fashioned name. Also, it goes well with literally just about any middle name I can think of.

She is a beautiful child though, it wouldn't be a bad thing to give her the same name, but I just don't think most people would want to give their child that stigma of a celebaby name.

Matilda Suzanne is pretty, but yes, I think Marie is over-used as a middle name, pretty though it may be... and we've covered Matilda Rose... so I just compiled a list of some of my favorites to help you out a bit.

Some of them are family names, thus fueling my love of the names, but I will totally not be offended if you don't like any of my choices:
Matilda Cadence
Matilda Catherine
Matilda Charlotte
Matilda Claire
Matilda Diane
Matilda Evangeline
Matilda Evelyn
Matilda Iris
Matilda Isabelle
Matilda Jocelyn
Matilda Lily (similar to Rose without the negative associations of a dead father)
Matilda Louisa
Matilda Lucy
Matilda Madeleine
Matilda Raine
Matilda Sage
Matilda Scarlett
Matilda Skye
Matilda Sophia

My favorite spelling is Mathilde. Mathilda is better than Matilda though.

It is close to the top of our list for future babies and middle names I like are:

Mathilda Iris
Mathilda Paige
Mathilde Jane
Mathilda June
Mathilda Gwenyth
Mathilda Eve
