What are some of your favorite *unexpected* nicknames? I don't mean like Jack for John or Jess for Jessica, but Sadie for Sarah, or as somebody posted earlier, Tate for Nathaniel (both of which I like a lot).

I like:

Robert: Beau
John: Jacques, Jock
Daniel: Denny
Anne: Anouk, Anoushka, Nan, Annika, Annick, Hannah
Elizabeth: Bette, Ilse, Elspeth, Liesl/Liesel
Alexander: Alec, Sandy
Helen: Lena
Eleanor/Elinor: Nora
Margaret: Daisy, Gretchen, Gretel/Gretl
Catherine: Kitty
Christopher: Kit
Charlotte: Lottie
Mary: Polly
Martha: Patsy
Sarah: Sally

I don't think Lottie, Kitty, Sandy or Bette are unexpected. They're all traditional nn for those names.

I knew a kid who went by Bert, short for Robert. It was unexpected to me (not sure why, really :p), and I actually really liked that. :)

I'm danielle and have been known to go by dani, annie, ellie, prudence, or pippa. take your pick, I'm used to them all. just don't call me chassy. that one is irritating.

I wish my name had so many variant nicknames! I'm just Sarah and get Sez/zza :(

Though my fiance just started calling me Sadie... because I'm a Sadist! lol

My old boss was nicknamed Peg, but her real name was Margaret. Supposedly that's not unheard of, although I had not heard of it personally.

Briar nn Byrdie/Birdie - I don't know if it is is unexpected, but I love the nn Byrdie/Birdie and I love the name Briar, so I thought I could use them together.

I like Sadie...but I'm not too fond of Sarah, actually.

Just for the record, I've never seen Anouk, Anoushka, Annika, Annick & Hannah as nicknames for Anne...they are all full names here.

My grandmothers went by Peggy (short for Marguerite) and Helen (the Americanized version of her Italian name, Elena). I like both of their given names more, but their nns are cute, too.

I can't think of any other examples, I'm not too into nns... although I always take them into consideration before adding them to my list.

Oh, also, my aunt Patricia goes by Tish, which I like a lot more than, Trish, Pat, Patty, etc.
