[identity profile] illy-borgia.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I have posted a few times on here about names I love and character names. I am not expecting yet but I recently came up with a name for a girl my family (I think) will like because they can pronounce the first name at least xD.

Genesis Sage

WDYT? Too many S's there?

My brother had a baby girl not too long ago and he was going to name her Genesis Vanessa but he went for Vanessa and dropped the Genesis which made me so happy...

Sage is one of my absolute favourites. But never on a girl. And I think that Genesis is kind of awful. I've never heard it on anybody before, I can't believe that you and your brother would both like it. Is it common where you live or something?

I do think that Genesis and Sage run together, a lot. Genesis Age is what it sounds like.

I mean that Genesis Sage comes across – to me - as trying to be unique, or says 'hey everyone, look how hip we are'.

Paradoxically, Genesis is in 139th place in the US statistics of new births (i.e. 139th most popular), up from 590th in 1990, only a little less popular than Charlotte and Ruby, which are in 102nd and 116th place respectively. Source (http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/).

(Also, compare to Susan, which is 644th, and Susanna, which hasn’t been in the top 1000 for over ten years).

So, in the great celebrity-babyname-inspired race to be unique, you can up being just like everyone else.

Of course, it’s possible that you like Genesis specifically because of its popularity (you say 3 women at work are called Genesis), in which case it’s a good choice. But as you also say the name ‘isn’t really popular’ I’m assuming that’s not your reason for liking it.

Ahhh, I read it's really popular in Chile, like in the top 50 names, but it didn't occur to me you were in S.America.

Entirely different context, so scrub everything.
