my roommate and i were sifting through her collection of nail polish- and i remembered the story of how Charisma Carpenter got her name (after an avon perfume), and i was thinking about how people name their kids after strange things, my roommates sister actually got her name from a wine (Maria Christina- and got named Christina Marie)

anyway here are some weird nail polish 'names'

brands:

Sally Hansen
Lori Anne

colours:
Ash Rose
Chocolate Fling
Lagoon
Risque
Daring Crystals
Velvet Ice
Matte Orange
Holograph
Frost
Batik Creme
Beige Blush
Violet Haze

I think very few of these could actually be a name LOL.

What other strange things have you heard people being named after?

my little sister's name is christina marie, lol.

my name was about to be ariel after some character from an 80s movie (i know very little about it, admittedly) but thank god my grandma stepped in and suggested ashley. i don't like it, but i hate it way less than i hate ariel.

I was named after Neil Diamond song. And no, it's not "Caroline".

My husband's waitress at Denny's was named Crayola.

And his father, a former teacher, had a student named Aquanetta.

Don't forget Matthew McConaughey's nephew, Miller Lyte!

I guess anything goes these days.

Was it the character from Footloose? Because if it was her, that'd be kind of a compliment since she beat up a truck with a baseball bat or pipe.

I had a camp counselor once; her name was Christina Juliana. A perfectly respectable name, but her mom wanted to name her:

Crysanthemum Serenity

...after her favorite flower.

I'm trying to think of the people whose names I know the sources of:

My friend Kylie was named after Kylie Minogue (early 1989), but not because her mother was a Kylie Minogue fan. It was because it was one of the few names that she could think of that would go well with their last name (a Polish name without the -ski).

My friend Leah was actually named after her older sister. Her sister's name was Carrie Leah, and her mom liked the name so much that Leah is Leah Frances.

A former friend of mine was almost named Gabriela Rosebud, because her mother's name was Mary Rose. Luckily, she just ended up being Gabriela Rose.

I was named after an Allman Brothers song, and my sister was named after a Led Zeppelin song. Thank God they are normal names, though, Melissa and Emily.

As an addendum: It was between Melissa or another song: "Harmony and Me" by Elton John. I'm not sure I'd be the same person today with a name like Harmony.

I'm named after Lisa Bonet's character Denise Huxtable (I'm Denise) from the Cosby show. My older brother named me.
I've always thought this was pretty funny, since my parents aren't tv people at all.
