Do you know any boys/men named James that stayed as such and aren't Jim/Jimmy/Jimbo (*gag*)?

And while we're at it, know of any good middle names for James? I think three syllables sound best (our last name is two), but I'm only so-so on Christopher and Alexander is a no-go. Thoughts?

I know of one. And if I was going to use that name (which I LOVE) I'd keep him as a James.

My husband is James.

It helps that his father was a James that went by "Jim" so my husband was always James to help avoid confusion.

I have known a few others too.

My cousin's baby is James...and they want him called James, only. Or...I think they might call him J, too.

He is James Robert, and my cousin's late father was James Richard

I know a couple of James' who are adults and go by either James or Jamie. I love the name and the nickname Jamie for a boy is growing on me a lot.

I've known 3 guys named James who only go by James, and a handful of Jims, although most of the Jims I've met are in my parents' generation... I've never met a Jimbo, and I don't know anyone who's gone by Jimmy after the age of 12 or so. I don't think people named James automatically get called Jim anymore, but I don't think you should use the name James if you hate the nickname Jim - it's ultimately not your choice what nickname (if any) your child goes by.

Also, I think shorter middle names sound fine with James. It would be nice to have something a little more unusual in there to keep things interesting IMO.

Suggestions:
James Alton
James Arthur
James Baruch
James Bentley
James Brandt
James Colby
James Daniel
James Fulton
James Lowell
James Lucas
James Nicholas
James Reed
James Roland

I would say off the the top of my head that I know about half a dozen James [from my school year] and none of them went by Jim/Jimmy etc.
A few went by their last names but that's true of a lot of high school boys regardless of their first name.

A ton, mostly my age or younger. Older man I know named James tend to go by Jim/Jimmy, but once they are in their 20s, I notice a lot more James-es who do not have nicknames.

Well, we want to go with Nathaniel James, but James Nathaniel doesn't sound bad either.

I know a lot of Jameses, actually. Some of them do go by Jim or Jimmy, but others go by Jay, Jamie, or James.

James is one of those names that can have literally almost anything as a middle name and still sound good, so why don't you just make a list of names that are significant to you and see which you like best?

I really like the name James! I know a few James' that have actually STAYED James and not resorted to some other form of the name.

My cousins name is James Edward, which I think is oddly adorable.
