too close?
Aug. 17th, 2008 04:01 pmI really like the name Lydia, but I have a daughter named Leah. Do you think they're too similar? Lydia is kind of Leah with an extra syllable.
Also, for a boy we love the name Samuel, but my husband's cousin just named her son Samuel. It's a pretty common name though, so it wouldn't be like we were stealing a really original idea right? The only thing is that the grandparents would have 2 grandkids with the same name, is that weird? The cousin though is really nice, I don't think she would be mad or anything like that, but I don't want people saying we stole her name. WDYT?

Date: 2008-08-17 08:39 pm (UTC)I love the name Samuel, so I think you should use it. However, I would ask her cousin first just to make sure. Just mention that it's a name you two have always loved, and make sure to mention that you liked it even before she had her son (not necessarily saying "And we liked it before!" but emphasize the fact that you've liked it for a while) and see what she says. I think if she says it's okay with her, you should use it, but if she seems iffy about it, pick a different name and maybe use Samuel as a middle?

Date: 2008-08-17 09:10 pm (UTC)My sister & I are Blair and Brittany. Both B's. My brother would have been Brooke had he been a girl.
I have a friend who's girls are named Mia and Nya and it's a really weird combo that doesn't sound good at all and doesn't roll off your tongue easily.

Date: 2008-08-18 06:35 am (UTC)Samuel is common, you would not be stealing it. And, it isn't that weird, because you've already stated they wouldn't be seeing each other constantly. It might be a bit of a headache until it is learned to differentiate between them (by context or even hair colour or something), so go for it. Do say that you've always loved the name Samuel, and was so pleased that the cousin named her son Samuel because it's a great name, and you can imagine your own little Samuel etc. to your cousin beforehand, as others have recommended.
