[identity profile] amspeck-myworld.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I saw part of a documentary on parents coping with children born with both sex organs, bringing up a topic of using unisex names (One of the children on the program had a very masculine name, Jacob).

What unisex names do you like/think of?

Here are a few I've found:
Cary
Enfys
Emmery
Francis
Kinsey
Loren
Robin
Sage
Sevan
Shea
Sky
River
Terry

Oh, and Ryan.

The only name I'm willing to consider unisex is Taylor.
The rest are clearly boy or girl in my mind.

Unisex names I like but I mostly prefer on girls are:
Morgan
Addison
Jamie
Bryce (yes on a girl)
Harper
Greer
Sydney

Also some people consider Briar and Hadley unisex, but I think they are strictly feminine.

The only unisex name I like on boys is Ashley.

I tend to not like unisex names, but I'd like to point out it's Frances for a girl and Francis for a boy :)

My ex-husband's family was full of them. He had 4 uncles: Dana, Jamie, Tony and Andy. His father was Ty. These aren't nicknames, either. I have known people of both genders by each of these names. I suppose they're not terribly common but I always thought it was interesting.

I only like Casey. Oh, and Peyton, but I'm not sure if that's technically a unisex name.

With most unisex names, I only like them for one gender, generally males.
Of the ones you posted, I like
Sage- Female
Sky- Female
River- Male

Other "unisex" names I like are:
Elisha- Male
Harper- Male, although I also like it for a girl
London- Male
Ocean- Male
Rhys (i.e. Reese)- Male
Riley- Male
Rowan- Female
Sasha- Female (I like it as a boy's name, but that's too Eastern European to me, and I live in the US)
Sidney- Male

Francis is for boys, Frances is for girls. When there is a legit, feminine alternative, I don't care.

There are unisex nicknames, like Alex, from masc and fem versions of the name, but no name is unisex to me.

Especially not Morgan, Jordan, Riley, Avery, Bailey, Harper, Taylor, Kelly an Ashley.

"When there is a legit, feminine alternative, I don't care."

I mean, if there is a fem alternative, and the girl is named that, I don't care they sound the same (I used Francis/es as the example).

Apologies. Poorly written.
