I've just copied this from [livejournal.com profile] useless_facts - original here.

There is a period in English history, from 1603 to 1714, known as the Stuart times. Puritans during those times named there children after virtues. Some you've heard of, like "Prudence" or "Charity". Others include:

Silence
Helpless
Forsaken
Misericordia
Fight-the-good-fight-of-faith
Sorry-for-sin
Posthuma
Lament
Discipline
Kill-sin
Increase
Faint-not
Desire
Search-the-scriptures
Remember
Seek-wisdom

Man! And I thought I was original when I thought of naming my child, "Fight-the-good-fight-of-faith" only I was going to spell it...

So much for originality. ;)

Might I recommend the use of more double consonants?

Kyll-Ssynn is much more in tune with the playground posse this year.

:D

I actually like "Remember". Granted, I don't think I'd use it, but it has a nice sound to it.

I love Puritan names. My absolute favorite is Fly-Fornication, though Wrestling is also a good one.

Sometimes we don't realize how many of these weirder virtue names actually carried on. William Makepeace Thackeray, for one, had a Puritan middle name.

The "My name is" ones, stuff like that? The ones that are diary-esque of different young people from history? I can't remember the exact title of them either. Are we thinking of the same thing?

Hahahah, I love Puritan names. Silly Puritans.

I actually quite like Misericordia. And also Patience, but that isn't on the list. I don't think I would ever name a kid that, but they're not too bad, comparatively.

Horrible history books are awesome, i had all of them growing up. My favourites were the terrible tudors & the vicious vikings.
They really are awful names!

My friend named her twins Whisper and Silence, and I gotta say I like it.

I had a Puritan relative who named their twins Desire and Experience. I love reading through my geneology.
