Most people who grew up with any exposure to biblical stories will probably think of Cain and Abel right off, yeah, and if you're in a Western country, it's probably unavoidable. It'd be my first thought, and there are plenty of negative associations with Cain for a lot of Christians.

With Cain most people would have the "evil" association, but it is also a very common last name (in its various spellings, Caine, Kane, Kayne), so if I liked the name and its meaning, I wouldn't be too bothered by the Bible.

I really don't think that everyone will think of the Bible. Maybe if you name the other kid Abel, but I really don't think that being named Caine would be the worst thing to happen to anybody.

Cain reminds of a story. I like the name Canaan (Kay-nan) and I asked a friend what she thought good middle names would be. She says, "Abel." And I was like "Canaan Abel? It's kinda cute." Until I started laughing.

I think Cain is a nice enough name, and most people would probably say, "Oh, is that from the Bible?" rather than "Oh, is that the guy who killed his brother?"

:)

I don't know much about the bible so I only associate with the Y&R.
Shame on me.
