[identity profile] zorianna.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Random crazy names/spellings I've seen recently at work:

Jeighlyn (f)
Trapper (m)
Braylonn (m, on a 15 year old, which was surprising!)
Sport (yes, that's his name!)
Farale'lijah (f, pron. Farrah-lijah)
Starlena (f)
Brylee (f)
Lakyra (f)
Tegyn (f)
Linkin (m)
Alivia (f)
Mayson (m)
Heldner (m)
Philoman (m)
Allahna'mae (f)
Karsyn (f)
Alizabeth (f)

And I had posted awhile ago about my aunt & uncle having a baby, and they had picked Sawyer for a boy and Sophie or Sophia for a girl. Well, apparently they're having a girl, but have decided to name HER Sawyer. Maybe it only strikes me as odd because I know they got the name from Lost, and so I associate it with that male character. WDYT? Can Sawyer go either way??

I know a little girl named Sawyer. If she had been a boy it would have been Cutter. And no, her dad is not a carpenter. It's terrible I know.

Sawyer is definitely a boy's name to me. Not just because of Lost but because it sounds masculine. Tom Sawyer...Sawyer from Lost...I have never heard of a girl named that. It would be okay for a boy though!

I don't think that Sawyer can go either way, no, but I still like it better than Sophie/Sophia.

I love the name Sawyer but agree, to me it's a boys name. I am a huge LOST fan so if naming your little girl Sawyer would always make me think of LOST Sawyer.

Trapper! Oh hahahaha, that makes me think of an exterminator. Trapper the bug guy or something. Poor baby.

They are all pretty wtf though.

Trapper??????????? AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Sport is bad too, of course.

I think that Sawyer is used on females a lot unfortunately. It is one of my least favourite names ever, especially on females.

lol what a negative post.... I'm trying to find something positive to say but I can't lol... .well Sophie/Sophia would have been nice if they had used it. But that's sad too lol

Trapper makes me think of that too, and then it makes me think of Crapper for some reason... as well as trapping wild animals. A horrible name no matter how you look at it.

Maybe Sport's parents were fans of Harriet The Spy when they were younger..

Omgggggg. I can't open my eyes.

I love Sawyer, but it definitely CANNOT go either way. It's way too masculine.

I bet Trapper's parents watch MASH.

I can deal with Alivia.
Even Starlena, Tegyn, Mayson, and Karsyn are tolerable.
But Jeighlyn? TRAPPER? SPORT? LINKIN? Allahna'rjheirhewiurhewhatever?!?! UGH.

Sadly, I think I could see myself liking Jaylin, spelled that way.

Can you imagine if it was an emo kid?

I can deal with Alizabeth and Alivia, but that's it.

I think Sport is kinda cute, like on Harriet The Spy, but I would personally only use it on an animal.

I had neighbors who had a dog named Trapper, they were terrible dog owners though and would let their dogs room the neighborhood and then the one time my dog runs away and into their yard, the bastard dad threw my dog on the ground. Thank God they moved away.

Sawyer is bad enough on a guy, but a girl... Sophia is such a pretty name!!!
Ok, getting common, I'll give them that, but it still beats Sawyer hands down.

Yuck. Believe it or not, I actually know a little Jeighlyn (said JAY-Lynn) who's about 3. I have always hated that name. Oh, and I've seen Karson for a boy, I think it looks awful with a K, and to me, Carson will always be a name for a dog, not a person. :\

Oh, god. I just realized Alivia is supposed to = Olivia? Awful!

Yes, Sawyer can go either way.
