What are some full names for the nickname Maisie? (Pronounced MAY-zee; for a girl, although it is also a pet name for my husband, James, for weird reasons I don't understand).

Behindthename.com says it's a shortened form of the name Mairead, which is Scottish for Margaret.

WDYT?

I would use Margaret, but I think that anything that starts with Ma would be okay. Maude, Madeline etc.

I'd use it as a nickname for May...more of an playful, around-the-house sort of nickname. As an actual shortened version of something, I can't think of anything besides Margaret.

I just think that Maisie sounds like a cow's name. No, not a fat woman, an actual cow. Maisie, Daisy, Bessie. I have no idea what it would be short for.

Although it may sound childish, I think Maisie stands alone as a first name. Maybe spell it Maizee instead.

I think of the little sister in Uncle Buck!

I'm not fully caffeinated yet, I thought you wanted pronunciations.

I know a Margaret who goes by Maisie, which I like because it's a nice adult-sounding formal name to fall back on. Really I think it works as a nickname for any M name because it's not really intuitive for any particular name.

My great-grandmother's proper first name was Bessie.

Granted, she hated it so much she wound up going by her middle name and being buried just as Norma.
