Lynn-Site-Same?
Jul. 25th, 2008 03:24 amThree things and to make it easy I'll put them in one post.
1.) I'll very likely never do it, but lately I have been thinking of the middle name Lynn for a boy. Yes I know Lynn is horrible common for a middle (or least was) and it's ushually/almost always associated with girls. Some reason I have liked for boys too. Plus it's different which is always a plus for me. However I know (sadly) a boy will be teased to death if Lynn was his first name, so I thought as a middle and I am assuming boys rarely share their middle names he won't really be teased. Lynn is also my middle name, it comes from my mother's maiden name, so it wasn't used for the filler reason :-) So Lynn for a boy middle yes or no?
2.) I am looking for a site that has been mentioned a few times here, in fact I tried to find a post with the information and clearly failled. It's the one where you enter the parent's names and it gives suggestions for names. Does anyone know the address? Pretty please and thank you in advance.
3.) This one is inspired by a question I asked my husband, we have two friends who are going to try next summer, so I asked him what how'd handle the following scenerio: Let's say you have a friend/family memeber/etc who is having a baby and for some reason you have never shared your favorite names with them (so it's not a case of "stealing" the name) and they tell you a top choice they are considering is a favorite name of yours. What do you say? Gentle suggest some other name they are thinking? Laugh about how maybe one day your kids will have the same name? Say that's nice and cross it off your list? Demand they don't use it? Something else? (btw my hubby's answer was a shrug and I can't tell what they can and can't name their kid).

3. I'd probably laugh about our kids maybe having the same names, but cross them off the list in private. (Granted, the second part only pertains to my potential boy names. My girl names I'm pretty dead set on.)

As for the sharing of the names, I'd probably laugh and joke about how they might have the same name someday. I don't think it's really a big deal, to tell you the truth. As long as both sets of parents aren't all pissed off about it, it's fine, and if you establish ahead of time that it's your favorite name, it's not like either of you can accuse the other of "stealing."
What's the name, btw?

3.) I'd say (I feel like that situation would suck, I'm not being unsympathetic, I'm just telling you what I really think would be proper etiquette,) if you've never discussed names with them before so they're perfectly unaware that they stole your favorite name, but they get pregnant before you do and plan to use it, it's really theirs. You could talk to them if it was a huge deal to you and explain, but if they don't want to pick a different name, I'd say that it was fair for them to use it. That said, maybe you could still use it, if it's a name that could inspire several nicknames and each kid went by a different one or something. But my sister, Abigail Rose, was born two months before our cousin, Jennifer Rose, and they didn't have any family reason to use that middle name, and they were completely aware of my sister's name, and we've always felt it just makes them look really uncreative.

Date: 2008-07-25 09:47 pm (UTC)3. it has never occurred to me to try and hold a name. if im not pregnant and not sure when/if i will be it seems silly to try and hold a name.
