double names...

Are you all for or against double names? I've known LOTS of people who have them but I personally dont think I'd use one for my child.
I've known the following:
Jane-Ellen (and ever since knowing her, I've hated this name based soley on HER)
Katie-Scarlett (seems a little too much to me)
Sara-Beth (cute but now there's a song with this name in it...)
Sara-Jane (eh)
John-Morgan (not a fan)
Leigh-Anna (i like this one but it could be 1 name ie Leighanna)
Dani-Jo (very southern but it fit the girl i knew)
Bobbi-Jo (was the cousin to dani-jo, i hate this one for some reason)

So are you all for or against double names? And if you're for them, whats your favorite combo?
Which combo that you've heard do you dislike the most?

My name is Bobbi Jo. I did not like it growing up and only went by Bobbi. Since I have grown up, I have grown to appreciate it and why I was named that.

My grandmother was Betty Jo and my mum April Jo. We just needed a Billi Jo (that was going to be my name but my uncle's name is Billy, so that was out) and we could have been the gals from Petty Coat Junction.

Anyway, I like some double names.

That is neat :) I hated my name growing up too but now that i'm older I like it alot (Christian) I think it's nice to have a name that really MEANS something to you and not having a name just because it was 'cute' when your mom was pregnant!

Double names are nms, they can be a mouthful and seem a bit 'redneck' (even though I'm British)
Knew a Sarah-Jane is school, and went to college with a John-Paul. That's about it.

My favourite is probably Lily Rose (Johnny Depps' daughter)

I like Ann-Elise (or a better spelling IMO, Annelise). I also think Mary Kate is really cute. I think it depends on the names -- I don't like anything too cutesy (like Susie Sue or whatever) but the double name thing can work. I don't think I'd do it with my own kids however.

I generally don't like them hyphenated- some double names are adorable like Mary Kate or Annamaria. It's really a toss up, and depends on the names themselves, I suppose.

Katie Scarlett is cute since it's Gone With the Wind related :D

Bobbi-Jo and like names sound very Southern to me. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just personally not that fond of the sound.

I don't really have anything against double names, though, but I take them on a case by case basis. ;D

I like Anna Maria (or Annamaria) and Marie Rose. Oh, and John Edwards daughter is named Emma Claire and I rather like that too.

Hmm. Whenever someone has a double name I think 'Why couldn't the parents just make up their minds?'. If you're that enamoured of two names, have one of them as a middle name. I know a Laura-Elizabeth (bit of a mouthful), and a Sarah-Louise. Don't know any boys with double first names.

I knew an Anna-Jane when I was younger, but that's it. I don't like those names, like other people have said they usually sound too rednecky for me.

I'm used to them, because a lot of my relatives have the double name. I tend to assume that the people with the names are either rednecks or Catholic, depending on how the name is doubled up.

Both of my grandmothers and my great aunts have the double name. Katherine Elizabeth, Mary Lois, Mary Lou, Sarah Catherine, Mary Anne.

my friend's name is AnnaLaura and I think it's nice. Her mom did daycare for a girl named AnnaLeah and I like that too.

I think double names are generally ok, but I don't think I'd use them.

I think double barelled names are annoying, because it makes one sounds rather posh & they're rarely used together anyway.

Jane-Ellen, I dont like the name Ellen & i think would be better as the second name.
Katie-Scarlett, yes way too much. I hate Katie, but love Scarlett.
Sara-Beth, I don't like either of these names! But they do sound okay together..
Sara-Jane- Probably the most common combo (sarah-Jane) It's rather boring & i don't know any Sara-Janes that don't go by sara.
John-Morgan, This would be okay if you lived in france.
Leigh-Anna, Ick this is just pointless! Leigh is an ugly spelling anyway. Leanna is SO much easier.
Dani-Jo, hmmm very American cowgirl.

Although i don't like double names, i'm guilty of an Amelia Jane (not joined) because i think the nn AJ is adorable on a girl...

I commented above but my name, Bobbi Jo and my mum's and her mum's were all Jo's and they used them as middle names. I just went by Bobbi growing up by my friends but my family, even though it was never with a - between it always called me Bobbi Jo and made it to be a double name.

Totally forgot to add that my middle name is Mary-Kate. I had never heard of the Olsen twins until 'so little time' was on tv a couple of years ago(brits don't watch too much american kids tv!)
I had always thought it was the weirdest combo... now i suppose people think my mother stole it! Mary is a family name & she wanted to name me Kezia but my dad convinced her to change her mind at the last minute so she wanted a similar name to go with Mary... Kate was the compromise!

My middle name is LeeAnne, but that's because my mother wanted to include both of my grandmothers without having one of their names as my first - so she took Anne, her mother's first name, and Lee, her mother-in-law's middle name, and put them together.

I also have a friend who went by Danibeth for the longest time, but her name is actually Elizabeth Danielle. I'd never actually name a kid a double-name like Sara-Jane or Sara-Beth. It's kind of cute on kids, but come on. "Supreme Court Justice Bobbi-Jo Genericlastname"? That commands respect. (Sarcasm.)

Of those, the only one I like is Sara-Beth, but like you said, there's the Rascal Flatts song with that name in it... I liked that name before though. Sara-Jane sort of works, and I don't like any of the "whatever-Jo" names... they sound way country to me. But I don't even think most of the ones you listed SOUND right.

I have a cousin Marirose, which I think is a really cool name. I guess it's the equivalent of doing Mary-Rose.

I just re-read A Time To Kill and one of the characters in it said something along the lines of "You can always tell who is a redneck because they all have double first names", which, personally, I think applies for any name with Bobbi or Jo in it. I think Sarabeth is lovely though! Sara Jane is nice too.

I think it depends on the names used. Like, I agree that Katie-Scarlett is too much and Leigh-Anna could easily be just one name, but Sara-Beth and Sara-Jane are nice. Generally, I think if you're going to do that, at least one of the names should be only one syllable.

I am not keen on ones that are Xxxx-Jo or Sue or Louise. They are too grown-up, Southern for me.
That said, I cannot knock all double names, since I am one. the name has to flow really well though.
My parents named me Katharine-Paige. my mom was just going to call me Paige, but liked both names too much, so yeah, she couldn't choose!
We are going to name a daughter Emma Jane. My husband isn't fond of the Jane, but I do fully intend to call her the entire thing. It will also help differentiate my Emma from all the others in her class.

i work with a girl named sarah jane, which i think is really pretty. and i like annabeth too. i work with a mary catherine too, but most of us just call her "mc".
