I'm kinda watching this Lifetime Christmas movie with Valerie Bertinelli and I wanted to know who this one actress was, but that isn't important.  Her character name though was really freaking bizarre.  It was Soccoro, something I have never heard of before.  Anyway what do you think of it?  ever heard of it?  I think the pronunciation is suh-core-oh (I haven't really been paying attention so I'm not certain).

I've heard it! I'm pretty sure it's Spanish, but don't quote me on that. I'm not sure if I like it. It reminds me too much of 'soccer'.

I met someone named Soccoro once. I think it's an interesting name, but not my style.

From behindthename.com:

Means "succour, help, relief" in Spanish. It is taken from the title of the Virgin Mary MarĂa del Socorro meaning "Mary of Perpetual Succour".

It makes me think of Sopporo (idk the spelling), the Japanese beer!

It is a Spanish name, and when I first heard it, I loved it, thinking it was for a boy (the whole ending in 'O' thing typically being masculine in Spanish).

And I kinda like it for a girl.

Aaaaand being a Spanish major/Spanish as a second language speaker, I love love love Spanish names, yet know that the majority of my family/everyone else would not be able to pronounce it correctly, thus frustrating me for all eternity.

I live in New Mexico and Socorro is the name of one of our towns, but is also commonly used as a female name. Well, at least i've only met females with it =o|
