Katara

I watched Avatar with my little brother earlier tonight and was wondering about the name Katara.

Baby Names World says it means Celebrant and another name site says it means Blessed or Pure.

Does anyone have any better info on it? Is it a legitimate name? I've never heard it anywhere else but I think it sounds pretty.

I kind of want to like it... I love both Kate and Tara... but then it also reminds me a little bit of catheter :(
It wouldn't take much for me to like it though.

I don't know where the meaning of "celebrant" comes from, but the meaning of "blessed or pure" is probably because they think of it as a related name to Katherine. (Which incidentally does not mean pure, but is often associated with that meaning because there is a greek word Katharos which means pure)
