[identity profile] prlsb4swiine.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
One of the girls I work with is a due with a baby boy in less than a month, and still hasn't picked out a name for him! She asked me for help and I listed some names off the top of my head, most of which she rejected. She asked me for more names, so I thought I'd ask here.

She likes unique names, but not completely over the top.
Ex: She likes Thane, dislikes Jace

Any name suggestions for a boy?

Edit: She really likes RILEY but isn't sure if it's a boy name. Is it? I know a girl named Riley, but no boys.

Riley is DEFINITELY a boy's name. It's originally a boy's name and like many others, has been hijacked by parents who want their daughter to be "different." I like it so much better on boys.

What about:
Morgan
Asa
Levi
Jonah/Jonas
Theo
Thatcher
Forrest
Nico
Micah

I know a couple of children with the name Riley. Both boys and girls. My niece has that name but spelled differently. It could go either way.

Oh and I was still picking out a middle name while in labor (which ended up being Riley), so she has plenty of time! ;]

I have to disgree, my niece's name is Riley just spelled differently because if she was a boy she'd would have been named Riley because that is my grandparents' last name. Either way I like it. There is a baseball player who named his daughter Riley but it's spelled Ryleigh (something like that) I think it could go either for a boy or girl. My sister in law and brother was gonna go with the name cause it was a family name not as they said "to be in running with popular names" LOL *shrugs*

My grandparents' last name was Riley, My niece if she was a boy would have been named that for my grandparents. I think it goes either way though... I never thought of using their last name as as first name, my brother's the one who mentioned it. I like the name Levi but in Boston that name is getting too popular :(

I'm not trying to be rude so PLEASE don't think I am, but just because someone has named their little girl Riley it doesn't mean it actually is a girls name. Riley is an Irish boys name that means Descendant Of Roghallach.

I like it better on boys, but it's definitely more common on girls nowadays, especially with alternate spellings (Rylee, Ryleigh, Rylie, etc) taken into consideration. Also, it rhymes with other popular girls' names like Miley and Kylie. It all depends if she minds that the name is common on girls, and that people might mistake her son for a girl if they just see his name.

And I just looked up BabyNames.com which has it as both, but the book I have (a Celtic names book) says it's a boy's name. Idk, maybe it's both on that site because of people using it as both.

I think Riley could go either way. I'm sure, at it's roots, it's a boy's name but I've seen it used on both genders.

Maybe she could just call him Riley Thane, since she likes both those names. Too bad if people are using Riley on girls now - it's not like she's calling her son Sarah. It's more like Ashley, Morgan, Jordan, etc.

babynames.com is full of shit -- they add totally made-up names just because someone named their kid that. You're right, it's a boy's name. I get so annoyed with people who say that names like Riley, Morgan, Aidan, Elliot, etc. are girl's names because somebody used them on a girl. They're still boy names.
