Do you think it's weird when people give their kids names that are similar to their names?
For example, my name is Karlie, and I love the names Kylie, Kelly, Kaley, and Kyle, but I don't think I would use them because they're too similar to mine.
Do you think I like these names because they sound like mine?

I don't know if you like the name because it sounds like yours, but honestly I don't think it's weird when people give kids names similar to theirs... it can be tacky, like in the case of Kris [Kardashian] Jenner, who named her daughters Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kendall, AND Kylie. Chloe and Courtney are NOT K-names.

In my case, I LOVE my name (Melissa) but I hate the name Melanie, Melba, and Melvin. I'm okay with Melania... and I love Melisande, but would not use it because it's TOO close. Being a Karlie and liking Kylie, Kelly, etc. is not that big of a deal, imo.

I can't tell you what your own motivation is for liking these names, but no, I would definitely not use one given your name.

I don't think that those names sound too similar.

I would name your kid something like Karla though.

I do like those names and I think it's neat they'd be sort of named after you. :o)

I know some people who named their daughter Allie when they combined their names, Alex and Kellie. Their other kids are Jeter (after Derek Jeter) Rhys, and the newest is Quincy Noel. Yeah, it's a girl.

I really love Jordanna/Jordana (Jord-anna not Jord-arna) but I'm Jordan so its pretty much out!!

As other people have said, I don't think those names are too close - and I think we can become attached to our initials. I think it would be fine to use them.

I don't think it's weird. I know a mom, daughter, granddaughter set that is Carolyn, Carol Anne, and Caroline hah. And my grandma's name is Alycia and her moms name was Alyce.

my great-grandma was Lou Ann and my grandma is Luanna... I don't think it's too horrible.

My SO name is Aaron. His mother's name is Sharron.

I joke that we'll have a kid and call him Zaarron to continue the trend

I couldn't do it. I have no idea why people name kids after themselves- I get naming them after someone important to you to honour that person, but why glorify yourself through your kids' name? It looks arrogant. So because I hold that opinion, I can't be hypocritical and name my kids something like my name.

I wouldn't even use the name Chiara, which I kind of like, because it's Italian for my name (Claire) even though most people wouldn't know that.

But I don't know if I would think anything of you using those names- I'd probably just wonder more whether it'd get too confusing having two K_L sort of names in the same house. They don't sound like they're deliberately chosen to match your name, but they're just sort of a group of similar sounding names.

(Disclaimer in case anyone takes this the wrong way: I don't actually assume people are arrogant if they name their child after themselves- there are plenty of people I know who have done so to some capacity and I don't judge them for it. I just totally don't get it and don't feel comfortable doing it because it seems self-glorifying. I never asked anyone their reason for doing it :p)

I'm named after my mom, and I plan to name a daughter if I have one following the same idea. I don't see a problem with it.

It depends on how similar it is. Kylie is too similar to Karlie, I think, but I'm not so sure about the other three. I have the same issue myself — my name is Beth, short for Bethany, and I love the name Elizabeth, but I feel like it would be really weird for a woman named Beth to have a daughter named Elizabeth. I really like Ethan, too, but Bethany is Ethan when you take the first and last letters off, so I'm kind of on the fence about that one, too. :/

I think you could get away with Kyle or Kelly, but I don't know if that would necessarily be a great idea. I'm the same way though, my initials are EL and I love names like Ella, Hazel, Nell, Muriel, and Cadel. Ella might be a little too close to my name, but I think the other ones are subtle enough to just be a nice connection (rather than a replication).
