Would you use that Tryndeee/guilty pleasure/stupidly spelt/foriegn name that you utterly love as a middle name, rather than bestowing it on the child as a first name?

I ask as I am completely loving Soleil (Sole-Ay) as a middle name. No way I'd give it as a first name, I don't think the kid will be able to spell it, let alone will most be able to pronounce it... but as a middle name *swoon*

I don't think husband will let me get away with it, so I'm not thinking TOO hard about it.. LOL

On another note (ie: not with same middle name) I've recently fallen in love with the name Laurelle, I went to school with one, wdyt? :)

i think soleil as a middle name would be lovely. &i've known people who have given their child a middle name that they like, but wouldn't necessarily want as a first name.

i'm kind of meh about laurelle, and i think laurelle soleil would just be...too much. but soleil could definitely work with some other names.

That's the great thing about mns! It's a great place to show off a super cool name without dealing with the downfalls it has.

Soleil would be a great mn imo. It would be cute to use an affectionate nn like Sunny or Sunshine too.

here in canada, soleil would be relatively easy to pronounce, since french is one of our two official languages. so i think it's great. problem is, depending on where you live (US??), you might get people who'd pronounce it SOLEEL or something. good call on using it as a middle name - that way you never have to worry about that.
i say go for it. it's a beautiful name.

I actually like Soleil as a middle name quite a bit :) I'm in Canada like babyalligator so I agree, it wouldn't be that strange here.

I prefer Laurel. The -elle ending is a bit too frilly, and makes it look like the stress falls on the last syllable - LaurELLE. Does it? If not, then the extra letters are just unnecessary; Laurel is a much stronger name, while still very pretty and feminine.

Haha, when I first saw this post I thought you wanted to use "Trinity" and spell it "Trynedee". Anyway, I like Soleil and I think it would be a great middle name! I kind of like Laurelle too.

Laurelle is nice.
I don't know what I think of Soleil, but I think putting a rarer name as a middle name is a great idea - you're using the name you love and if your kid doesn't like it won't come up very often anyway. Plus there's always the chance the kid will growing up loving their unique/trendy/different middle name more than their first name, who knows?

Nice names :)

I do have a middle names list with categories...

Too weird
Aesara, Mariposa, Symphony, Vesna
Dadealus, Taliesin

Too normal [for my general taste]
Eve, Julia
Edward, Philip, Richard (all family names)

Just like them better that way ...
Hazel, Clara, Marina
Jude, Reid, Raphael

I love the names Starla and Fairia (fairy-uh) but I don't think I could ever do first name, middle name would be cute though.

I like Soliel, though it makes me think Punky Brewster, and I'm not really a fan of Laurel. Or Laurelle, however you spell it.

I know a little girl named Vesna! But she lives somewhere in Europe, so in that country it's not so unusual.

i like soleil a lot, and it would be great as a middle name. and even laurelle, with the right first name, would be really lovely.

I know someone with a 4-year old daughter named "Soleil", and she hasn't had too much problems with pronoucation and such. I think it's a beautiful name, first or middle.

Soleil is beautiful. In the US, people might still associate it with Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster), not like that matters. I think it would be fine as a first name, and a child with that name should have no problem learning to spell or pronounce it.

I totally understand the "this name is too uncommon, use it as a middle name" thing.

I do to, she lives in Belguim (but has Serbian parents). Also know of another who is the cousin of my Slovenian friend.

Otherwise yes it's very unusual outside Slavic contries.

yah as a middle name i think one of those names would be fine.

Laurelle is super cute!! She can always go by Laura or something if its too fancy or long for her tastes!

oh holy crap I love how you spelled Laurelle b/c I didn't even think of the name "Laurel" til I read this post. Laurel looks dumb and doesn't seem as pretty. I love Laurelle!

Hmm, that sounds a lot like the little Vesna that I know! Does she have a mother named Mia, brothers Marko and Filip? Are you the same Sage that posts in the Delphi baby names forum?

I think Soleil is a beautiful name! The only downfall to it is that it'd get mispronounced a lot, but that wouldn't be a problem if it was a middle name.

Laurelle is not my style, but it's different without sounding tacky or weird.
