Hey guys!

I kinda realized that there are quite a few names that I like, that do contain the 'th'. Actually much more boys names than girls names though. Here's a list of those names I'm refering to:

GIRLS:

Athena
Braith
Judith
Kathleen
Tabitha

BOYS:

Anthony
Arthur
Ethan
Gareth
Hawthorne
Heath
Jonathan
Keith
Kenneth
Mathew/Matthew
Seth
Thornton

I don't even know why that is so. Maybe I just like the sound of the 'th'. I hate when non-English-speaking people are unable to pronounce it properly! It's SO easy! Anyway, WDY guys think of it (and the names of course)?

I like all of your names, except for Braith (reminds me of breath) and Hawthorne (great surname, literary even, but not a good first name).

I like ...

Athena
Tabitha

Arthur
Ethan
Gareth
Hawthorne (as a middle name)
Jonathan
Matthew
Seth

I hate when non-English-speaking people are unable to pronounce it properly! It's SO easy

That is an unbelievably arrogant thing to say. If the sound does not exist as part of their native then why should they automatically get it right. Any more than a native English speaker will naturally be able pronounce every letter sound in Japanese, Russian, Greek or other languages with diffrent alphabets.

I like Tabitha. Hawthorne just reminds me of the Hawthorne bridge connecting Washington state and Oregon state. (See picture ())

I've noticed the same thing with my favorites. I also tend to like other soft sounds like "sh" and "ph" and reject a lot of harsher sounding names, including the oh-so-trendy "AY" names (Hayden/Jaden/Brayden etc) which often sound a little hard to me.

Tabitha, Arthur, Gareth, Kenneth are also favorites of mine. The others are names I don't care for, despite the "th" sounds.

It's the Interstate Bridge that runs between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. The Hawthorne is just one of the smaller bridges that cross the river in the downtown Portland area.

Hawthorne St/neighborhood is also a trendy area where all the hippies live (but it has the best vegetarian restaurants!)

I agree. Non-German speakers take a LOT of training to make the guttural sounds of that language, but it doesn't mean they're stupid. Gah, I hate ethnocentrism. It's SO easy to say when you heard that sound around you while your language skills were developing.

I'd add Nathan or Nathaniel.

Hm, you really don't have to be so condescending to (other) non-native speakers of English. It's not a sound that exists in a lot of languages, and doesn't come naturally to people - that doesn't mean you should look down on them just because YOU managed to learn it.

Yeah, that really bothered me as well. As if those crazy non-English speaking people do it on purpose because they're just too lazy to figure it out. Uncool.

Lessee, I like:
Athena, Judith, Tabitha

Anthony (though I personally prefer Antony), Arthur, Ethan (which is a tad too popular now for my tastes), Hawthorne, Heath, Jonathan, Kenneth, Thornton

I don't like Kathleen because it's one of those "old lady" names to me, and Braith just reminds me of the oh so preppy names of a couple girls in high school, Blair and Blythe. It seems to go along with those.

I've never liked Gareth, even though I know (and like) a boy with that name. Keith always reminds me of this middle aged, balding, sleezy guy I knew. Matthew and Seth are both actually good names, and I know people with those names, but I'm really starting to dislike them by now.

So true
I leant German in high school, and while native speakers would have probably get the message it was still German with an English accent. Which must sound as odd as English spoken with a really strong German accent.

Didn't help that we were being taught by someone about as German as I am.

YOu could add Blythe or Cynthia to the girls names' too!

For some odd reason, I love the "Th" sound with boys. I love Ethan and Seth and Heath.

Jareth makes me think of Labyrinth. :)

I like the names Athena, Seth and Anthony.

It's kind of ironic but there are some names I like (mostly Spanish and Italian names) but I hate how English(only)-speaking people pronouce them.
