What does preppy mean? I am not from the US and don't fully understand the term.

i think people just associate this with the "preppy" people they've known, not really things that sound like it in general. It'd be the same with any general question, like what names sound "goth" or "nerdy"... ya know...?

with that said, i thinkkkk....

courtney, kate/katie, kayla, mike, shawn, adam... and so on... mostly common names.

Girls: Elizabeth, Kate, Cynthia, Aspeth (really preppy girl in a book), Catherine, Anastasia
Boys: Chad, Richard, Brad, Douglas, George, most last names as first names, Warren, Nicholas, Bennett

As preppy I picture "Great Gatsby"-ish people with sweaters around their shoulders and playing tennis and in country clubs.

Preppy is supposed to mean the upper class who can afford to go to a college prep school. It's also often taken (incorrectly) to mean just the popular kids at your high school, though.

I love Caroline. It's on our list. I haven't been able to think of a good nickname, though. I don't like Carol and the Caroline at my high school was dubbed "Caro". Yuck!

I am a Caroline. I absolutely love my name, and I have never really wanted to change it. I always wanted a nickname when I was younger, though, and it took me ages to come up with ones that I liked, but I'm happy with the ones I've got now.

When I was in middle school, a few of my friends called me Carli. Some of my friends still do call me Carli, and my family as well. When I started high school (at a new school) a few of my friends started calling me Lina, which I like even better. So those are two options. Another option might be Carrie.

As a baby, my parents called me C-line, which turned into Sealion. But that one didn't last very long. For the most part though, I've been Caroline my entire life, and I like it. I'm glad that you are considering it!
