What are some nicknames for James? I would love to use this as a first name, but my husband hates it. I need a strong nickname to change his mind. I am mainly looking for a more modern nickname - something more uncommon.

Jame, Jamie, Jim, Jimmy...ahh pregnancy brain..I cant think of anymore right now.
You could always use the middle name as the 'source' of nn..for instance I used to go to school with a 'Francis Russell' who went by Russ..just a thought :)

I think Jay is the most 'modern' nickname for it, but I also like Jamie! Actually, I just like James, without using a nickname.

My cousin's name is James; we call him Jamison or Jamie.

I don't really care for them for my own children (Dave really would like a little L.V. running around...eh) but they work for some people :). If my niece had been a boy she would have gone by A.J. which does sound like a 'strong' name to me if that is what your husband was looking for...very masculine.

My uncle Jim went by Jamie when he was younger.

My husband is James, and he went by Jamey when he was younger. People call him Jim or Jimmy sometimes. His mom calls him Seamus, which is the Gaelic form of James.

Others: Jay, Jameson? In the LM Montgomery book Anne of Ingleside Anne has a son James called "Jem" and a character later adopts a war-baby named James but called "Jims."
