[identity profile] sarapod.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I'm about six months pregnant with what the doctors are pretty sure is a girl.

Here is my list of names...But whether or not I still like them changes on a day to day basis (Hellooo, pregnancy hormones). I'd appreciate feedback, especially on whether some of them are TOO overused or TOO old-fashioned. My husband is providing minimal feedback in this area, so I've given up on his opinions. ;) The middle name will most likely be Jo or Elizabeth, but keep in mind that that's subject to change depending on if the husband decides to speak up or not.

Caitlyn (As long as no one calls her Caity) - Meaning: Pure
Violet - Meaning: Purple flower
Allison (Allie would be the preferred nickname here) - Meaning: Noble, kindness
Annabelle - Meaning: Grace, favor
Aurora (With the nickname Rory...Is that too pretentious?) - Meaning of Aurora: Dawn; Meaning of Rory: Red king o_O? That would work well with my father-in-law being that he looks like a redheaded Santa Claus (And the last name's King)...
Lainey - Meaning: Torch, bright light

Hm...Or now that I think about it, any other names that would result in the nickname of Rory? I kinda like that. :)

I like Violet, Allison, and Aurora (er. Sometimes I like Aurora, sometimes I don't, lol).
Lainey is nice, but sounds kind of cutesy to me, if you know what I mean.
I also like Caitlyn, but spelt like Kaitlyn.

Rory is a cute nickname. I'm sure others will be able to think of names that could use that as a nickname, but I'm drawing a blank, sorry!

Caitlyn - Seen it used too much, and all the girls I know named Kaitlyn/Caitlyn tend to be psycho bitches. :(
Violet - I like it, it was on my list for a girl, but then again, I love flowers, and purple things. ;)
Allison - Ehhh... No opinion.
Annabelle - It makes me think of a cow, for some reason. Or maybe that was Lulubelle... I forget.
Aurora - I like it, but if she has red hair, it might be a bit much. ;)
Lainey - It seems... incomplete to me. Like it should be a nickname for Elaine or something.

The nickname Rory is SO trendy. I'm sorry, but Rory will always be an extremely masculine name to me, no matter what that character on Gilmore Girls was called. I like Aurora, though. I like Caitlin, spelled like that, Alison with one L (but I'm biased because it's my name), and Violet. Lainey is too cutesy, I can't see it aging well.

i like caitlin, but its likely that she will be called caty, or cate at least. i think thatll be really tough to avoid.

my favorites are violet and annabelle. i think violet elisabeth is really wonderful!

i dont like allison (dated and i dont like the allie nickname), aurora (have just never liked it - i dont understand the appeal of the roarroar sound), and lainey (its just a wimpy sounding name, i dont like it)

i think annabelle elisabeth is really pretty too. those three (violet, cate, and annabelle) are all on my own list, i like annabelle faith.

Congratulations! I love Annabelle (Annie, Belle), Allison and Violet. I like Aurora, but hate Rory. I also like Kaitlyn, spelt that way. I may be biased though, as it's my own name.

Wow, I really love Lainey, i don't find it overwhelmingly cutesy. nn would be Lain? I think I may like that better actually. Violet is okay, but it will forever remind me of the Boxcar Children.

Caitlyn- Like if it's spelt Caitlin, but it's really exceptionally popular.
Violet - Gorgeous, I also like Viola.
Allison- Boring.
Annabelle- Love love love, but this spelling is too overthe top for me. I lilke Anabelle or Annabel.
Aurora- I adore this name, but Rory is my favourite boy's name. I wish it wasn't becoming a unisex name.
Lainey - Bland, you have much better names on your list.

I vote Violet or Annabelle.

do you think rory is trendy on a boy?

I like:
Violet
Annabelle
Caitlin spelled this way (the y looks tacky)
Allison

I think Aurora is super pretentious sounding, and Rory is so overused and trendy these days. And it seems like Aurora nn Rory is on EVERYONE'S baby name list. Lainey is cute but way way way too nickname-y for a girl. Just Laine would be better and you can call her Lainey as a nickname. Delaney nn Lanie/Lane would be cute, too.

Many here, myself included, feel that if you can't handle a nickname, don't pick a name that will lead to it. Parents simply don't have as much control over their kids' nicknames as they'd like... in many cases, it's little to NO control.

If Caity is that much of an issue to you, I wouldn't use Caitlyn.

No, just like James or Evan aren't trendy on boys, but are on girls. That's just my opinion, of course.

I really like Violet. The only name there that I absolutely do not like is Aurora. It's one of my least favourites. The other ones are just okay.

There's always Lorelei. Or...Rory. That's a name on it's own.

Congrats on your pregnancy. I like Violet & Aurora. Annabelle is nice, but as I always say the first thing that I think of is Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe.

Yes, good old Henry, Jessie, and Benny... lol

Maybe Adelaine? It means noble one in german. Or Alaina/Elaina could work too.

Caitlyn
Violet
Aurora

I love these names! And I love that you know what they mean. So many people these days forget that there is a meaning behind names. Congratulations on your little one!

I LOVE Allison. That's what I want to name my daughter, but my husband hated it so I went for Reagan.

Annabelle is cute. I'm not a big fan of Violet or Laney though.

I don't know. My five year old cousin is named Joshua, and everyone is pretty well "trained" not to call him Josh. Even he insists that, no, his name is Joshua not Josh. So, it's certainly possible. I just call him Josué instead.

Your icon is super cool, by the way.

I couldn't tell for sure if you meant that your daughter's last name will be King (mine is as well :D), but if so, I'd personally pass on Caitlyn as it has the same K sound. I really like you three syllable names--especially Aurora.
The only name I can think of that could have Rory as a nickname is Roran, but I'm not sure if that's a boy/girl/unisex name.

Congratulations, by the by.
