Just a question...
May. 28th, 2008 01:49 amSo I've been watching this community for quite awhile because, like many of you I really love names. But now desperation has driven me to make a post. (Just kidding.)
But seriously, a couple months ago I came acrossed the name Catriona. I really liked it, but I was pronouncing it phonetically I guess, pretty much so that it rhymed with Fiona. But on the weekend I read in a name book that it's actually pronounced like Katrina...which I don't like as much, and I would probably just spell it the latter way to avoid confusion if I ever did want to use it.
Anyways, my question is how do you pronounce Catriona? Would it be plausible to pronounce it to rhyme with Fiona, or would that be needlessly complicated and seem made up?
Thanks in advance!

Date: 2008-05-29 12:54 am (UTC)I think that if you like the sound of the name, then maybe you could come up with an alternate spelling. Katreona, maybe?
But in my opinion, if you wanted to use "Catriona" specifically, it would be best to keep the most common pronunciation. I know a lady whose name is Anne, but pronounces it "Annie," and it drives me crazy.
