Sooo, I just finished watching Passion of the Christ for my World Religions class.
And, I really liked the way that the name Jesus is pronounced in ancient Aramaic.
It sounds like Yeshua.
Frankly, I thought it sounded beautiful when the actors said it.

Thoughts?

Well, personally, I would nix anything related to Mel Gibson... but other than that it is a nice, albeit unusual, name.

Yup Yeshua is the Hebrew version of Joshua, Jesus being the Latin version I believe...or possibly the Greek?

never found biblical, aramaic names attractive... or most hebrew names for that matter... just not my thing.

I never watched that movie, but I agree, Yeshua sounds pretty indeed.

Then again, I have a thing for Hebrew (sounding) names ;)

As someone forced to undergo four years of Talmud (Dad really wanted a boy) the movie's Aramaic was said with American accents. Yeshua is a shortened form of Yehoshua, like Robbie for Robert or Josh for Joshua. It might also be the Greek version, but it's fairly informal.

If you like ancient biblical names...might I suggest ones without the Gibson baggage?
