My mom suggested Savannah for a girl. What do you think? I can't thnk of any nicknames for it (I love nicknames, and having the ability to shorten my name). BUT that also means I have to kick Johanna as a middle name, which makes me rethink using Savannah even more. (And am I even spelling it right, hahahaha!) What do you all think?

She also suggested Dawson for a boy... I said no way. Anyone else watch Dawson's Creek when they were growing up?

That is the most common spelling of Savannah. I have also seen it using one "n." Savanah.

Another is Savana or Savanna.

The traditional is just as you spelled it, though.

I'm not big on Savannah. It makes me think of the movie (Savannah Smiles) and the late porn star. :-/

Nickname for Savannah... assuming you have an aversion to Vanna, as most would, how about Sunny?

lol yep. I dont like Dawson... my friends baby is a Joey, Dawsons Creek & friends. But i think that's really cute..

I like Savannah, most people shorten their names to the beginning of their first name, & Sav isn't particuarly nice... Anna is a possibility though. I'm having an Amelia & would rather use the nn Lia than Ammie..or whatever.. (Although, i just know end up calling her Em & it will get so confusing... everyone will think she's an Emma/Emily!)
I really dont like the name Johanna at all, so i wouldnt use it- but i have to say Savannah Johanna isnt great! Savannah Joanne sounds okay, if you need to try & get it in for family reasons.

Vanna, Anne, Vani, Anna, Ani, Savi, Hannah, Sam, (might be pushing it), Banana, I can see all of these for a nickname to go with Savannah.

Personally I would stay away from Savannah Johanna. But I do know a couple that named their daughter Neviah Mariah. :/

While I (usually) like surnames as first names, I don't like Dawson.

yw, and I forgot to say... my daughter has a friend named Savanah (yes, spelled with one "n") and her nickname is "Savvy." I think that is a really cool nickname.

I just don't like "place" names. And living about 2 hours south of Savannah, Ga, it wouldn't be a name I'd choose.

No such thing as a stupid question. :-)

It is pronounced just like the word savvy. I love the meaning, too. I hope this helps you to pronounce it:

"Sav" rhymes with the word "have," and "vy" is pronounced "vee."

Someone who is savvy is up to date, in style and well informed. It's a very cool word.

lol! When I was thinking of names to go with Savannah or Johanna, I though Nicole worked nicely with both of them.

Savannah Nicole Joanne Martin sounds. It is a mouthful, but while Nicole and Johanne would be family names Savannah would be uniquely hers. I think I would use it as a last resort though!

I have trouble pairing Johanna with a name. Joanne seems more versitile.

Johanna Nicole
Savannah Nicole
Ava Nicole
Savannah Joanne (iffy)
Savannah Joan (I go back and forth on this one)
Johanna Colleen (Close to Nicole)

Just some ideas. Maybe they'll help a little bit.
Good luck! :)

i love the name savannah. very pretty. i met a little girl with that name today actually, spelled in the traditional (imo, correct) way - two n's and an h at the end. anna would be a good nickname.

Your icon is adorable. :) I like the name Savannah. I knew a girl named Savannah Rose and thought it was absolutely beautiful. As for Dawson, I totally agree with you.

I never watched the show, and I used to love the name Dawson... but ever since the show decided to take over the world years ago (hah) my feelings towards it have changed.

I know a little girl named Savannah Rain :)!

Savannah Rose is beautiful.

I don't care for Johanna, personally, but if it has a lot of sentimental value to you, maybe you should find a name that flows better with it.

Wow, you just made me feel old. Watch Dawson's Creek when I was growing up? Wasn't that like 5 years ago?

Savannah - I like it well enough. Savvy, Annie as nns? I don't think it works too well with Johanna though.

Dawson - eh. Not a big fan, though I have no real dislike either. It's ok.

Yeah, as much as I loved Dawson's Creek while I was in HS and college, the name is ruined for me as a potential baby name now...

I love the name Savannah, actually. I had never heard of it as a name until I saw Lucy and Kevin name their baby that on 7th Heaven.

Savannah is starting to get really popular from what I've heard. It's a nice name but she might end up sharing it with every second kid at school.
The nickname Savvy makes me think of Pirates of The Carribean.

Savannah Mae
Savannah Jo
Kristen Johanna

I don't think johanna works incredibly well as a middle name. Better as a first name or shortened to Jo or Hannah, imo.

Good luck finding something you like :)

I don't like Dawson but I hated Dawson's Creek so that's probably the reason :P
