"Virtue" sibset
May. 7th, 2008 12:51 pm On Monday I heard one mother call out to her two kids. The girl appeared to be 6 years old and the boy was 3 or 4. The girl's name is Modesty, nicknamed Mod-ee (similar to muddy) and the boy's name is Legend. What do you guys think of these names?
It was interesting to see the kids, too. In my opinion, Modesty was not dressed modestly! She looked primped and spoiled in a V-neck shirt with capri pants and sandals that had heels!! Where can you find heels for a 6 year old? She looked there was a lot of emphasis placed on her appearance. Legend on the other hand looked like a regular rough and tumble boy. Nothing much legendary. idk Giving the boy a puffed up name that suggests he is destined to "be somebody" while the girl has a name that suggests she is to be prim, proper, and demure seems like gender stereotyping to me.
