My sister and her wife just adopted another of their foster children. Lovely news that I have another niece yes, but what's better, they changed her name. Why is this better you ask? Because, her birth parents had named her Nevaeh! At her adoption they changed her name to Maggie... I don't know if it's just Maggie, I hope not, but even that's better than her original name. At least that's my opinion. Now if they named her Margaret and call her Maggie that's fine too. Margaret is my mother's middle name after all. I'm sure I'll find out when I see them next. But in the mean time, besides being happy there's a new member in our family, and another neglected and abused child has been saved... which are very good reasons to be happy mind you, but also, it just makes it that much happier, I think, for one less 'kr8tyv' el crappo name to be forced upon an innocent child. At least it makes me smile. :)

Yay! Congratulations to your family! I plan on adopting some day.

Maggie is a really nice name. I'm glad they didn't keep the name Nevaeh.

Congrats to them!
Maggie is a very sweet name, whether or not it is a nickname for Margaret.

How old is said child? I mean, if he or she is about five, even though Nevaeh is a horrible name, I'm not sure if it was all that right to change it. Maggie is adorable, though I really do hope she has a full name. Congrats on the new family member:]

(PS- My family is thinking of fostering a child like your sister did, can I ask whether or not it was an extremely difficult process with all the paperwork and everything? Thanks:] )

That's a great story. I hope to adopt someday myself.

And yay to the new non-el-crappo name! :)

This story put a smile on my face. It's great that two people can give a child a loving home - and a better name :P

I hope she doesn't get confused about having a new name, but I agree, Maggie is a HUGE improvement. Nevaeh is my most hated name ever.

Maggie is great - congrats on aunt-hood.

Congratulations to your family on their new addition! Adoption can be a wonderful thing. Also, kudos to your sister for renaming your niece to a more proper name. Though I'm not one of the "name Nazis" that tend to frequent this forum, I must say that Margaret (with Maggie as a nickname) is a lovely name and a much-needed change from Nevaeh, which isn't even a real name. Margaret is also one of those names personally dear to my family since it's a family name on the Irish and English sides of our family. Good luck to your newly-expanded family! (My husband and I are expecting our second child as well!)

maggie is my cats name. she came with the name, so i didnt choose it, but it makes me a little sad because i love the name so much and it would be wierd now to use it for a child. its a beautiful name, whether its a nickname or not!

congrats to your family!! i also hope to adopt someday.

It's not a name I'd use myself, but I do like the name Nevaeh.

My aunt and uncle adopted their foster daughter last year and changed her name from Lily Renee (the Renee being her mother's name) to Lilyan Faith. I don't know that I like the way they spelled it...but I do like it better, especially the Faith part...because it took a whole lot of Faith for her to become "ours".
