I need some help with O names. Just a quick explaination, about a month ago I posted about giving my son the intials of W.O.L.F. My biggest problem in doing that is finding an O that fits. I like Owen, but it's taken by a friend. Oliver, eh. Oakley is ok, but it sounds hippy and reminds me too much of the glasses. Orsin/Orsen is nice, and it means bear cub, so it goes with the wild animal theme. I kinda like Oriris, but I have a feeling the mythology behind his name might raise a few eyebrows (the whole marrying his sister and how he conceived a child with her, etc). But, then again, from day to day, how many people would really know?

Any other suggestions for O names? I poked through babynames.com but none sounded all that thrilling. The first name will be William (no way that will be changed) and the second middle name might be Lucas. I'll worry about finding something permenant for the L when I solve the O problem :p

Ahhh, another way to spell Orson XD Hmm, I don't know about the spelling, Orsen is what I'm used to seeing, Orson would probably make it easier to say, and Orsin looks like it means bear to me (not sure why, maybe because the family names for bears is "Ursidae". Which is really silly, but minds always work in their own way).

Otis reminds me of the dogs in your icon, pugs, from Milo and Otis. Loved the movie when I was young, but I will see a pug whenever I say Otis XD

Oswald, Lee Harvey Oswald. And the guy from Drew Carey's old show... I don't remember what it was called.

Orlando, Orlando Bloom.

But Orville doesn't make me think of anybody XDD Thank you for th suggestions, I'll have to roll them around my head a little more.

I know the spelling with the "o" because of Orson Welles, but even seeing it next to the "e" and the "i" spelling, I just prefer the way it looks.

What about Omri? Pronounced "ahm-ree", I assume.

Osiris is alright, IMO; I think it's more okay for deities to sleep with their siblings than for humans, and I don't think that's most people's main association for Osiris, anyway.

I like Owen, Oren, and Othello for other O names.

True, and my friend's son has Owen as his middle name, and my son would too, so it's not like both of them would have the first name Owen. So, it's not like one of us would call out for a Owen and get two kids.

I know, I love how it flows together. I was always wary of more than one middle name because it gets jumbled sometimes, but that combination made me rethink it. Esp with O names, since they can have an awkward sound to them.

As for Osiris, I know it would be more acceptable for deities to sleep with their sisters, but I would be afraid someone might think I'm agreeing/promoting the behavior. Like, how someone might question what the parents of a child named Lucifer believe in. Neither name means the parents are agreeing to the associations with the name, but that doesn't mean people won't think they do.

Here are some common Israeli ones just to broaden it up a bit
- Omer, Omri, Ori (Hebrew), Omar, Omari, Omran (Arabic)
- Ofer, Ofir
- Oded
- Oren, Orev
- Oz, Ozer, Ozri

They might be a little too far out of range, but O names are a bit harder to find. Here's are two links:

Yup, you have a number of repeats in there. I wasn't intending to provide every Hebrew name starting with O (hence the links), but to give ones that might sound more standardized or usable in combination with names of different origins.
