I tend to like alternatives (for lack of a better word) to classic names better. For example

Willem and/or Liam to William
Edwin to Edward

Wdyt, or are they completely different names to you? What other "alternatives" can you think of?

Willem is just another legit version of William and Edwin is not Edward from what I know.. so I wouldn't define them "alternative". You just don't like classic names, and that's fine :)

The only "alternative" thing about names that I can think of are those names where people are trying too hard to make them "alternative". So basically the whole kr8yvv trend and such.

I meant to say that if a name has legit variants, then I don't see what there is about them that makes them anymore alternative then its "root" name ;)

For example, Isabella stems from Elizabeth, but I don't consider Isabella as "alternative".

I know brothers named Edwin and Edward. They have 4 other brothers with completely unrelated names. Anyway, I like the name Edward a lot more than Edwin but that might have a little bit to do with the fact that I like Edward the person more than Edwin and have a hard time looking at the names completely unbiased.

I do like Willem though, I'm not sure if I like it any more than William though.

I prefer Edwin to Edward anyway. My mom would kill me if I ever used the name Edward anyway, she'd probably kill me if I used any Ed- name actually. Good thing I don't like Edwin enough to use it.

i prefer william, liam and edward.

i see edwin and edward as two completely different names, and i see willem and william as two variations on the same name.

as for liam, i like it alone and as a nickname for william.
