[identity profile] lovebird.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
This article popped up when I went to check my email today and of course I thought of this community. While I'm sure they could have found some more awful names for the list, the last one amused me.

10 Worst Baby Names of 2007

ps: I looked back 3 pages and didn't see this posted, so sorry if it's a repeat.

Evan is not that weird a name for a girl. See: actress Evan Rachel Wood.

I also kind of like Story (though I hate Jenna Elfman).

Ever is a perfectly good Hebrew name (though I wouldn't use it as a first name due to it's English meaning), and Ptolemy is a GP of mine.

The rest I admit are a bit too weird/off for my tastes.

I have never heard of Ever. What does it mean in Hebrew?

Ever means 'the other side', 'pass over'. It's a biblical name.

Nope, it's not a re-post, thanks for the link.

Total nonsense, we see names that are far worse every week in this community. They may not be great-- matter of opinion-- but in no way are they the worst (excluding E-:, which I certainly don't think of as a name for that crazy punctuation).

UGH!! I've loved the name Ever since I was 13. I can't believe it's on the worst baby names list. There are many more horrible names out there.

Story and Evan are pretty cute, too. No way should they be considered a "worst name".

I haven't read the whole article yet, but I'm psyched that Ptolemy is number one! I didn't think anyone ever even noticed its existence. That said, I agree with the article, no one will be able to pronounce it. Which is why I wouldn't use it. But I wouldn't say it's one of the worst names of 2007, same with Evan for a girl. They're not great, but they're better than a lot of what's out there.

Heaven Rain is probably the worst, but I hold a special place of hatred in my heart for 'Ever' and 'Story'.

I have a friend named M. That's it. But he does by Devon, which is his middle name. He thinks it's a little silly but he doesn't mind too much.

I have a friend whose first name is just A.
But his middle name is Jay, so he's A. Jay.
I think it's dumb, but it's not as bad as E-.

That said, only E-, and Superman, and Magnus are really awful.

Princess, Heaven, and Alabama all sound trashy.

Evan is definitely a boy's name in my book but it's not unheard of on a girl, so I don't think it's that bad.

Ever, Story, and Ptolemy are kind of pretty, I wouldn't use them but I like them alright.

I like how the argument against using Alabama is that the mother isn't from there. So all those thousands of moms that have been naming their babies Savannah are all from Georgia, right? (Incidentally, I think Savannah is a much better candidate for any "worst names" list than Alabama, although they're both pretty trashy.) And isn't this the kid with the middle name Gypsy Rose? ("And the mother's not even a gypsy--OR a flower!") Perhaps they sidestepped the issue because they were they worried they'd offend all the stripper moms reading MSN Family and Parenting?

Ever isn't such an awful name. There's an actress named Ever, she's actually a Carradine. Also, Evan has sort of become unisex? At least, this baby girl's not the first girl. As someone mentioned above, Evan Rachel Wood is a good example.

my great grandpa's name was Magnus, and he went by Max. then my grandpa's name was Max. Magnus isn't the most appealing, but it's a perfectly fine name that's been around for a long time.
