A lot of old names are becoming new again. I've noticed Dorothy being used a lot more. Well, what about Doris? It actually has a beautiful meaning:

DORIS

Gender: Feminine

Usage: English, German

Pronounced: DOR-is (English), DO-ris (German)   [key]

Ancient Greek name which meant "Dorian woman". The Dorians were a Greek tribe who occupied the Peloponnese starting in the 12th century BC. Doris was also the name of a Greek sea goddess.

I think that it would be ridiculously cute to see a little curly-haired girl in pink overalls running around named Doris. Dory and Dorie and Dora are good nicknames. What do you think? Is there any life in this old girl?

NOTE: This was my grandmother's name and before she died she made me promise NEVER to name my daughter Doris because she hated it. But if I ever used it, it would probably be as a middle name for Elisabeth. Elisabeth Doris doesn't look TOO bad, I don't think.
