I am suddenly in love with the name Dexter, nickname Dex.

My husband and I are currently in the "John war" - he loves the name John and I haaaaate it.

Dexter John is my suggestion. It's a family name - my grandmother's maiden name.

I think it could go either way. If my son is a total dork - Dexter could be a liability but I think it would be a REALLY 'cool' name otherwise.

What do u think?

I made a post about this name sometime last week, because I just recently realized that I love it! I think it's a really cute name. I think Dexter John sounds really good. I hope your husband likes it. =D

I like it. I think if it's a liability, he could always go by John or DJ. I don't think it's a 'bad' name, and I've known two Dexters, both of whom weren't the most popular/coolest guys around, but it didn't really matter.

If you hate John, you shouldn't have to use it. I think having it as a middle name is a nice compromise.

Maybe you could use John Dexter? A lot of people go by their middle names. And if the kid is a dork you could go with "Jack" or "JJ" or "JD" or something like that and he wouldn't have the liability of automatically being Dexter.
