Date: 2008-02-03 04:47 pm (UTC)We picked C because there are a lot of K-names in my husband's family that are similar (Kathleen, Katie, Kathryn) and we didn't want to fall into too much of a pattern- that's really the only reason. Now that we have it, I'm sort of biased towards C, I think it looks a bit more elegant, but I honestly don't think either is "better".

Date: 2008-02-03 04:55 pm (UTC)I think Katherine leaves more option for nicknames.
Then apart from that, I have synesthesia so C's are yellow and sweet and K's are purple and rebel, so if I had to decide I'd take it from there and ponder which personality I'd rather attach to the name.

Date: 2008-02-03 05:09 pm (UTC)just kidding. I like them both equally, I can't see why one or the other would not be good.

Date: 2008-02-03 05:17 pm (UTC)But my prefered spelling of this name is actually Kathryn. (And I am not a "replace all the vowels with y's" kinda girl! But with this name, it seems lovely, not trendy or tacky.)

Date: 2008-02-03 05:51 pm (UTC)Plus that's how my best friend spells her name and my little cousin is Katie. It just seems more normal to me.

Date: 2008-02-03 06:38 pm (UTC)Cathy looks funny to me for some reason and Cate is just strange.
I think Catherine as a middle name is nice though, since there is no need for a NN in that case.

Date: 2008-02-03 07:47 pm (UTC)I do like the look of Cate or Catie, but I feel like there will be a lot of misspellings.
I used to love the spelling Kathryn, but now it looks childish. I dislike Katharine.

Date: 2008-02-03 07:52 pm (UTC)I also think Catherine is more classic.
I knew twins named Jacqueline and Katherine (Jacky and Kathy) and they seemed more modern than the sibset I knew named Catherine and Anna, which seemed more classic. I love the sibling names Catherine and Anna. I think they go great together.

Date: 2008-02-03 09:52 pm (UTC)(I'd be spelling it that way because of St. Catherine, though I suppose I could get away with using an alternate spelling. It's not like I'm a devout Catholic, I just think she was a badass.)

Date: 2008-02-04 12:18 am (UTC)Catherine with a C looks more feminine and sort of romantic than Katherine with a K, which reminds of sharp, sassy-tongued Katharine Hepburn. Plus Cathy reminds me of Cathy Earnshaw from Wuthering Heights, while Kathy looks like a truck-stop waitress and screams 1950s. Kathy-Sue.
