My cousin is due with my god son in 5 weeks, and her and her fiance have finally settled on a name (well until next week lol).

The name they've chosen is Jay.

Now, it's not my favourite name ever, but for a couple of weeks she was adament she was going to name him Frankie, which i hate. So i'm just relieved she's changed it lol.
The other name she was planning on using was Charlie (just Charlie, not Charles), which i LOVE but she's not so keen on it anymore.

So what are your opinions on Jay? I prefer it just as Jay and not as a nickname..but i know alot of people prefer it to be a nickname.

I like Jay better as a nickname, but it's not a bad name either.

I like Jay better as a nickname since "Jason" sounds more professional than Jay. Although, a priest at our church is Jay, short for James, which I've never heard of before.

It also makes me think of my soon-to-be ex-brother-in-law Jay/Jason.

I like all three names (Jay, Frankie, and Charlie), but I prefer all three as nicknames. Jay for anything from James to Jacob to Joel - doesn't really matter to me - Frankie for Franklin, and Charlie for Charles. But I think Jay is best out of the three as a given name. Charlie-short-for-Charles would have been my first choice, though.

I really hate nicknames as full names, but Jay is all right, because at least it doesn't sound completely like a nickname. Charlie and Frankie just don't work as full names, in my opinion.

I like Jay as a nickname for Jason. I know a few girls named Jaye, though.

Jay just sounds like it should be short for something. My husband's name is Jason and his family calls him Jay.

Jay is actually one of my favorites, and I would use it as a nickname for any male J name.

When my mom was in high school, she dated a guy named J. It wasn't even Jay; just J. The stories stuck in my head because of that, and because Mom was so annoyed that he would come visit her parents even after she'd broken up with him.

I know a couple of adult Jays, and I have no idea if it's short for anything with either of them; they're *always* known as Jay. A friend Jason in school always went by Jay as well, so I guess for some people, there's not a lot of point in having it short for something.

Jay is much better than Frankie, I agree.
