Came across the name "Magnus" just the other day.
It was a little boys.

What are your thoughts on this name?

I think it sounds old or bland and the only nickname I could think of
for it was Maggie, which is too girly to call a boy.

I think it's strange, since it means 'big' or 'grand' and that's all I can think of when I see it.
That said, I just don't like the sound of it, either.

I've seen Mangus, which I kind of like, but I prefer Angus. Magnus is kind of weird. Okay, really weird. Like I said, I definitely prefer Mangus or Angus because he could go by Gus.

I lived in Shetland for a couple of years, and it's SUPER DUPER MEGA common there, on males of all ages. Old men to middle aged, to young men, to teens and babies o! my! without interruption.

I've gotten used to it.

It is a family name that I love...It was my great-grandfather's name, is my uncle's name, and part of my son's name.

My uncle was taunted with "Maggie" a few times when he was younger, but was hardcore enough to assure that didn't occur very often. He goes by "Mag".

I sort of like it, in the same way I sort of like Angus. Only sort of because I like both have the nn Gus, but at the same time the name spelled out reminds me of the word "anus." So it's a toss up.

It's okay. I wouldn't use it. It reminds me of Sir Magnus Donners, a tycoon character from A Dance to the Music of Time, so I associate it with old businessmen.

Magnus is a very common name here in Scandinavia, my cousin's named Magnus. He's what, 19 now? We don't usually use any nicknames in Norway (only ones I can think of is Alex for Alexander/Aleksander and Karo/Caro for Karoline/Caroline), so he goes by Magnus..
