For a character in my book.

Up til this point I have been using Jay (or J) as short for Joaquin for the following reasons:
* Based purely on sound of the nickname, you'd never guess what it was short for (because Joaquin doesn't have a J "sound"), it's not a "natural" nickname if you know what I mean
* The nickname could legitimately be a name on its own

I would like to keep those characteristics, but with a name that meets the additional criteria:
*Is of British/Australian origin - Aboriginal is ok but not ideal
*Is not too modern or trendy, as it has to suit a man in his mid-thirties and the extended version has to suit his father

Obviously for a male.

So far I've had suggestions of Zane for Alexander, Rex for Reginald, Zee for Xavier, Joe for Jonathan, Nate for Ignatius. Which do you think works best - or what other name/s would you suggest?
