American Name Society
Oct. 8th, 2010 04:40 pmSo this isn't directly related to Baby Names, but it is related to names in general and I got very excited when I found it. I just finished reading "Earth Abides" by George R. Stewart, and was looking up on wikipedia to find the other things he's written. On the page I saw that he was a founding member of the American Names Society!
From their website: The American Name Society was founded in 1951 to promote onomastics, the study of names and naming practices, both in the United States and abroad. It is a non-profit organization that seeks to find out what really is in a name, and to investigate cultural insights, settlement history, and linguistic characteristics revealed in names.

Just something I thought you might find interesting. I just learned about it, but I'm already thinking about going to the meeting in Pittsburgh.
