On my way to work I saw one of those decals for kids' sports teams with the child and their number on the car in from of me. The name was Alyson. I had to kind of look at it for several minutes to figure out how to say the name.

It's Allison or Alyssa. Not both.

It's not the worst name in the world. But it still bothered me.

My friend married a Hungarian guy last summer and the two are expecting their first child. She just recently posted on her blog that they had decided on these names:

Girl - Lila Louise Z.

Boy - Noah Matyas Z.

Lila (lee-la) is a concept of Hinduism and literally means "play". Lila is Hungarian for the words violet or purple. Louise is German and means "beautiful".

Noah is Hebrew and means "rest" or "relaxation". Matyas (MATT-yash) is the Hungarian form of Matthew. Matthew is also Hebrew and means "Gift of God".

Personally, I think Lila is going to go through life correcting people pronouncing her name incorrectly. Other than that, they are nice. WDYT?

What do y'all think of the name Elia? I've been watching top chef lately, and that's one of the girls names on there. I really like it. I think it's pretty. What's a good middle name for it?


I was at a school the other day and i heard a teacher call a little girl named Genesis. I don't like it at all. And 2 little boys named Garrison and Trenton. I don't really like those either.

I just got on facebook to notice that some people my husband and I knew in high school had their baby a few months back.

Their son's name is "Redick". Thoughts?
