I had a good friend growing up named Ashra. Her parent pronounced it "Ahj-ra" if that makes sense (think Azure), but we pronouced it ASH-ra. Now that I think back, I really do love that name. It is so unique, sounds good however you pronouce it, and it is original yet still familiar with the Ashley/Ashlyn correlation. What do you guys think? I may use it, I dunno yet. I ended up not liking her in the long run even though our parents are still friends, so I don't want her to think I'm honoring her in some way, lol.

Feb. 17th, 2006 01:56 amOkay, so last night's poll was fun, and it was interesting to note that the people in this community don't like some of those names near as much as the general populace seems to. So, tonight, we get to look at boys names. These are the top 10 baby boy names for 2004 in the US, according to this site:

Oh, and the poll for the girl's names is located at http://www.livejournal.com/poll/?id=674115, if you want to see the results for that poll.
Vote away!
[Poll #674799]
I was actually surprised to see Joshua up so high. That's my brother's name (and my nephew's, as he's a Jr.) and while I knew it was popular, I didn't think it was that popular! Luckily my nephew goes by Jace so he won't be "Josh M." or anything like that.

Guilty Pleasures for Middle Names
Feb. 17th, 2006 10:42 amWould you use that Tryndeee/guilty pleasure/stupidly spelt/foriegn name that you utterly love as a middle name, rather than bestowing it on the child as a first name?
I ask as I am completely loving Soleil (Sole-Ay) as a middle name. No way I'd give it as a first name, I don't think the kid will be able to spell it, let alone will most be able to pronounce it... but as a middle name *swoon*
I don't think husband will let me get away with it, so I'm not thinking TOO hard about it.. LOL
On another note (ie: not with same middle name) I've recently fallen in love with the name Laurelle, I went to school with one, wdyt? :)

Feb. 17th, 2006 08:57 pmI'm weird. What if someone wanted to get REALLLLLLY creative and named their kid Viper but instead spells it Vyper or something strange...
I dont think Vypyr would work...
Not that i would name my kid after a snake or car.
"Oh yes, I think i'll name my triplets Viper, Cobra and Boa"
Good thing I'm not having kids for a long time XD but i already have their names picked out.
