I really like the names Judas and Lucius for boys and Ivy, Adia and Matthew for girls. I really like these names but everyone keeps telling me that they are a bit too unusual. My partner like Jessica and Amanda for girls and John and Shane for boys. I found his names to be a bit too plain. We are expecting our first child and it doesn't look like we are coming to any sort of agreement on this.
WDYT?

Lucius is actually one of my favorite names for a boy. I don't like the name Judas though.

As for the girls, I don't mind Ivy and Adia isn't bad either, but Matthew?

Matthew for a girl?!

I love the name John, but that's my partners name so I am a tad biased ;)

Lucius is really nice. I wouldn't use Judas though, because of the connotations. Ivy and Adia are lovely also, but Matthew on a girl? Eeesh.

I like Judas (though, you know, the whole Biblical connotation is not the most positive one) and Ivy. Matthew for a girl is a world of no.

I love all your names, except for Matthew on a girl. It's a great boys name though. I think Ivy is my favorite. Jessica and Amanda sound plain to me, but not Shane, and John has been growing on me lately.

I like the name Lucius. It's a really nice name. I agree that the insinuations that would be taken into play if you named your son Judas would defiantely cause him trouble in the long run. Especially if you're religious or he becomes religious, etc. I love the name Ivy and while the name Adia is pretty - I would have to see it with a middle name to tell you if it would really stick, ultimately. As for Matthew...

While I like unusual names for children, I can't imagine that you're daughter would be thanking you if you named her Matthew. If you like it for the nickname of Mattie...You could always try Madison. Or you could throw caution to the wind and name her whatever you want. However, remember, it's important to remember that while you love the name - you have to take into consideration how much your child is going to love it when she gets old enough to get teased (possibly) for having a little boy's name.

Just a few thoughts.

Also - I think that Jessica is a way overused name. Amanda is pretty. But perhaps you could accent off of Amanda with a chosen name of your choice? Or the other way around. Ivy Amanda. Amanda Adia. I'm not sure I'm partial to either of those, as I don't know your last name. But you may be partial to one - and then you and your partner both get what you want.

I really like the name John. My father-in-law's name is John. My eldest son's middle name is John. But again, John depends so much on what's going around it. Middle, and last name. Or first and last name, etc. And I'm not partial to Shane.

I'd step away from Judas, tbh.
At first I thought Lucius was a bit TOO out there, but I don't know, maybe it could work... One thing, though, Lucas, Luca and Luke are all very popular right now, so he could end up in a class with loads of other boys with similar sounding names.
I like Ivy, and think it goes great with the name Charlotte for some reason.
Adia isn't really my style though.
I LOVE Matthew, but for a boy. How about Mattea or Matilda/Mathilda?
Jessica, Amanda, John and Shane aren't really my style, but they're all ok.

Judah, Lucius, Ivy, and Adia are all fine.

However, Matthew is NOT a girl's name. At all. It's actually rather boring...for boys. And for girls, it looks like you just ran out of girl names. This whole trend of naming girls boy's names is ridiculous.

The only thing I'd suggest is that Judah and Lucius both have negative connotations to them -- Lucius is quite close to Lucifer, and is also the name of an 'evil' character in Harry Potter and Judah is very close to Judas from The Bible. I prefer Julian and Lucas, but Judah and Lucius are both fine names, just something to think about if you're worried about that sort of thing.

I love Ivy and Adia.
I'm not big on Judas or Lucius, but I like other variants. How about Lucian? Jude? Judah? Jonas? Jonah?
And Matthew is definitely not a girl's name.

i really like ivy and adia... and can see matthew for a girl.
lucius sounds devilish to me which isn't necessarily a bad thing, hah.
judas i don't like at all, biblical connection or otherwise.

jessica - boring.
amanda - meh.
john - boring.
shane - could be worse but you're right, they're all plain compared to the ones you picked. maybe some first/middle name compromise?

A girl named Matthew makes me think of "A Boy Named Sue." LOL

If you like the sound of Judas but don't like the name reference, what about Jonas? It has the same kind of sound.

Yeah, a girl named Matthew is going to go over so well at school.

Judas? The biblical connection is horrible. Do you like Judah? Judah's a good name, and super close.

Lucius and Ivy...a Village fan?

I think Lucius and Judas are uncommon without being outright strange. Ivy's one of my favorite names and Adia's very pretty, but I do think Matthew on a girl would be pretty out-there.

I agree with your assessment on your partner's choices, although I do like John.
