Uh, your SO's kind of being a douchebag. Since when is it "bad" to name a kid after a deceased loved one? I seriously don't see how you could spin that negatively, unless he's somehow jealous of your dead friend (which...I don't know the guy, so I guess it's possible, but that seems like a reach!) Joshua is a beautiful name, one of my favorites.
