What do you think of the name Harper?

It's not a name option for us right now -- we have our list pretty narrowed down -- but we were watching an episode (one of my FAVORITE episodes, actually) of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit today and the name popped up.

I've thought about using it before, maybe as a middle name, because I personally think it sounds really cute. But I know in the back of my head I would never use it because (A) I've always seen it as the sort of name for a "single birth," because it seems like it would be a hard sibset name, and since we're having multiples, that's out of the question... and (B) I don't think the child would nessecarily be comfortable knowing that I discovered the name from a rape victim on a television show. I know about Harper Lee... and that gives the name points with me, but I stil can't help associate it with the rape victim.  Thoughts?

I quite like it but I think I would only ever use it as a middle name. You wouldn't have to tell the kid where you got the idea from!

Are you having twins then?

I like the name a lot. I'd forgotten they used it on SVU.

I love it, but I think it's best as a middle name.

Harper is one of my top five for a girl. :-) I don't remember where I heard it first, but I loooooove it.

I personally LOVE it. It was a name my husband and I considered when thinking about names. My problem is, I don't think it ages well. Maybe it's just me. But I love it none-the-less.

Honestly, I hate it. It's a surname/occupation name, and I think it sounds ugly. Plus, it just reminds me of the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper. Not exactly someone who'd bring to mind a little girl.

I love it on both genders. My hubby shot it down though. :(

Love it. I read a book with a heroine named Harper and I've loved it ever since. Book wasn't very good, but the name is fabulous.

I had never actually considered it as a name until it started appearing so much in this community. I usually don't go in for the whole occupational/transferred surname thing, but for some reason, I really like this name. I'd never use it...any kids I have will likely have the last name Brewer...but there's something I like about it.
