I want to veto our boy name. While I used to really like our tradition, family name choice:

John Scott (nicknamed Jack)

I really want something with more.

I keep going back to these names:

Grayson
Adam
David
Julian
Jacob
Joshua
Lucas or Luke
Dylan

What do you guys think?

I like John, but not Scott, and I think Jack is overused.

Of your other names, I like David, Julian, Jacob, and Lucas. Dylan and Grayson are too trendy sounding and I'm not not a fan of Adam.

I have no real advice, since John is arguably the same popularity level as most of those names, so it's not like you can really be like, "I don't want our son to have a name that's too ______," because they're basically the same style. Maybe just say, "I don't like the name and I don't want to name my son a name that I'm not 100% in love with because I'm going to have to live with my choice for the rest of my life."

I like Grayson (I actual prefer just Gray or maybe Grady)
I really like Julian.
I like Lucas/Luke.
I like Dylan but recently I've started to prefer it spelled Dillon.

Jacob, Joshue and Adam are good names too.

So what's the tradition? Is John Scott a family name? Or your family picked the name..? I'm a little confused. But I hope you end up naming your son something that you'll be completely happy with. After all, it is your son.

John is his father's name, it's been a few generations now. And Scott is my grandfather's name and my brother's middle name. so we wanted family names, traditional i just meant as kind of, well, boring. :)

and yes. sometimes i kind of forget it is my son too... he's so jazzed about possibily having a boy.

Maybe you could stick another middle name in there and he could go by that? That way you're still honoring your family members but your son will still go by a name that you really love. Or even give him a first name off your list and make John and Scott middle names. I think that might work. =]

What about two middle names? (John Scott as mns).. Lucas John Scott. Julian John Scott.

If you're thinking John Scott is too boring.. I'd go with Grayson, Julian, Lucas, or Dylan. They seem less boring to me.

That's a good idea. There are some good combos with John in the names that you like, and there's nothing wrong with using his middle name most of the time and having John as his 'official' name.

I like the combos:
John Grayson
John Adam
John David
John Lucas
John Dylan

If you really want to use Scott as well, you could do the same thing but give him three names, and just call him the first middle name, eg:

John Grayson Scott
John Adam Scott
John David Scott
John Jacob Scott
John Lucas Scott
John Dylan Scott

I like all your other boy's names except for Dylan.
I really like Lucas for a middle name, too. But then again, most of your boys names go well with eachother ;)

I vote for Julian. All the other names seem just as traditional as John to me (except Grayson, but that is getting crazy popular now).
