I've been subbing at the same school all week.

Some interesting names and my thoughts:
Mi Amor -- W T F; sweet girl, though.
Anjelique-- I wanted to cry. May as will have named her Uniqua. For a second I though "Oh, they spelled it with a J to make 'angel'. Oh wait.. :P. This name is wreaking havoc with my grammatical fanaticism. Must.. not.. defy.. laws.. of.. grammar (except for punctuation, teehee).
Bill-- a name I don't usually like, but rarely see the nn on a little boy.. I loved it, quite adorable.
Leo is also becoming an increasingly popular name. I'm betting money if my friend has as second son, she'll name him Leonid 'Leo' after her father (sibset already Vlad and Katerina).

Earlier today, while searching for the phone number of my daughter's cemetery, I came across a list of the names of everyone else who's been buried there. There are some interesting names, especially from the turn of the last century. Here are some of my favorites and a few a found odd or interesting; all first names or first name/middle names, with the exception of a few, I included no last names:

The good:
Wilhemina 'Dicke'-- I am assuming Dicke is pron. Dickie. OMG, cute! I've always like this name, but such a cute nickname. Perhaps making the list (is that creepy?), but maybe not if FSIL uses Georgina 'Georgie' for a daughter.

The bad
Moosa(f)
Mignon(m)
Viller MAe
Lockwood LeGrande
Weltha
Antonionette
Full name-- Alpha Loreta Hard Casebeer

The interesting:
Elsworth
Otha
Melba

Peter Paul (hehe..just ticked by this name)
Tressa
Concetta
Webb
Eduina
Geraldine
Winford
Pomposo

And the best last name:

No disrespect to the deceased.

I love the name Hildegard. I am not sure I could use it though - I will probably use the name Matilda with the nn Hilde.

I also like the name Mignon, but I've only heard it on girls.

As an FYI - Depending on the date of birth of Melba, that may be a shoutout to Dame Nellie Melba (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dame_Nellie_Melba), a turn-of-the-century (1900s) Australian opera singer, who was internationally renowned - and took the stage name of Melba after her hometown of Melbourne.

As a name here in Australia, it might raise an eyebrow or two, but would also mark the parents as opera afficiandos or parochial Victorians.

Anjelique doesn't seem too strange to me, but only, I think, because of Anjelica Huston.

I actually know someone named Webb. Somehow, he pulls it off. It's a running gag that we screw up his name, so he's been called everything from Webster to Wobb to Wobble.

I love the sound of Tressa, probably because of it's close proximity to Tessa (one of my favorites), but I hate that if I actually stop to consider, it makes me think of hair.

Mi Amor, ugh...one of my good friends is named Amante. Yep...the Spanish word for "lover."

I absolutely love the name Leonid. Reminds me of Leonid the Magnificent from America's Got Talent ^_^

Heh, my great-aunt's name was Charlotte Melba, and she was named after the singer! She was born in 1909/1910. Heck, my great-grandparents were hicks! They were from rural Texas/Oklahoma. They had mostly great taste in names, though.
