Ah, still wondering, hehe.
Nov. 9th, 2005 10:09 pmWhat do you think of the name:
Nora Grace?
I thought I had a name for the baby girl I have (still) not conceived, but I just love this name.
I also used to like Greylin Amya. What do you think of this name? It is no longer in the running for any future kids or pets I have, but I kinda like it. It is unusual.

:)

Date: 2005-11-09 01:24 pm (UTC)I love the name Nora, either by itself or as a nickname of Eleanor/Eleanora.
Greylin Amya would be a good name for a scifi/fantasy novel character.

Date: 2005-11-09 01:57 pm (UTC)Greylin, I'm not too sure about. I've seen Grayson as a boy name, which is nice. I don't know if I like the "grey" connotation, though.

Date: 2005-11-09 02:52 pm (UTC)hate the name Greylin. sounds like it could be a evil bad guys name in one of my stories. :/

Date: 2005-11-09 03:39 pm (UTC)Greylin - names that end in "lin" or "lyn" are overly trendy and boring. And I don't like names that are made up.
Amya - how would you pronounce that? And again, it looks made up.

Date: 2005-11-10 11:40 am (UTC)My mother's name is Grace, and my grandmother's name is Grace. Back then it was much more rare, which made it incredibly beautiful.
It's so overused now, it's lost some of it's luster.
I used Grace as a middle name for my daughter because of the family significance. She is now almost 12 years old, and since that time the name has skyrocketed out of control.
This is just my opinion, but I'd try and think of a different middle name if you want to be more original.
What about Nora Leone, or Nora Lisa? (Nobody uses Lisa anymore, yet it's classic and pretty.) How about Nora Gabrielle? Just suggestions, you may not like them, but I thought I'd throw them out there for consideration.
If you still love Grace, do use it for sure. Just remember you'll be disappointed at how many young ones you run across who have the name Grace (both as first and middle) as well.

Date: 2005-11-10 03:49 pm (UTC)I agree, Grace is way overused. I think it is very pretty, but I do not like common names. It was my great grandmother's name.
I am thinking of names that sound decent when said among the Dutch. My husband is Dutch and the child, for at least the first few years of his or her life, would be raised here in the Netherlands, until we decide to move to America, someday.
I love Lisa, but it is quite popular here in Holland, so it seems. I know a couple of babies with that name. I like Leone and Gabrielle, but I do not like how Gabrielle is pronounced in Dutch.
I am thinking of a nice Dutch name, Anouk and putting an American name with it like Elyce. Anouk is pretty but not very common here at all.
Thanks for your suggestions. I do like Nora Leone though.

Date: 2005-11-11 09:41 am (UTC)I strongly encourage you not to discuss any more names with family and perhaps not even friends. Truly, it is your baby... not theirs. Any name you choose for it will be perfect. When you want opinions, come to this community. People here will give you positive and negative comments, but you don't have to take it personally, like you do when your mum comments, y'know? :-)
That is interesting that you like Nora Leone. That is the first thing that popped into my head, and I thought it was beautiful too. I also love your choice of Anouk.
I have a Swedish friend who married and American, so they decided to name their kids names that were easily pronounced in Sweden and in the states. The Dutch girl names that I thought were nice for a girl in both places were: Skye, Francisca and Brandi. For some reason Skye really stands out. Here are some Dutch combinations I thought were nice:
Skye Gyselle
Skye Giselle
Skye Cecilia
Francisca Ria
Francisca Marcel
Brandi Anastasia
Here is a great link to many Dutch names:

One more thing. If you decide to stop telling mum what you're thinking, don't tell her. You don't want to hurt her feelings and send her in a tizzy. Make her think she's still "in the loop." When it comes down to naming your baby though, it's up to you and daddy. In the end, everyone will love what you decide. :-)
