if you want to horrible mutilate the spelling of a Russian name, Maksim, you can do it Maxim... or change the MAx spelling to MAks... and do the original name.
It's impossible to horribly mutilate Russian names, as they are originally written in Cryillic. Since Maxim and Maksim sound the same as Максим, they're both pretty legit. It's like Natalia versus Natalya and Alexei versus Aleskey versus Aleksei.
true... I suppose its all in the pronunciation, however. I, wiht a sligt southern draw, pronounce Maxim and Maksim differently, as well as all the forms of Natalya and Aleksei. I asked my northern BF how she would pronounce them, and she doesn't say them much differnetly at all. I just suppose which is closer to the actual cyrillic pronounciation in my head and thus I consider others horribly mutilating it. :) I'm weird like that!

I like Massimo too but I wouldn't use it unless my baby daddy was Italian or something. Same with the french name.
