I'm quite fond of names that start with a plain or short first name and have a rich middle name (examples: Ivy Josephine, Jade Evangelina), so I'm kind of intrigued by the possible combinations with Mary as a first name.
So far, I've seen
Mary Katherine
Mary Virginia (possible reference to the Virgin Mary?)
Mary Elizabeth
Mary Cherry (on tv show Popular)
So what are the most interesting you've heard or you would suggest? :)

according to thinkbabynames.com Mira is of Latin, Slavic and Hindi origin, and its meaning is "wonderful; peace; propserous". It also means 'to look' in spanish.

Mary Christine is pretty.
I know a (German) girl named Marie Elizabeth who goes by Marielle (Muh-RILL-uh) and one named Marie Catherine/Katherine (dunno which) who goes by Marike (Muh-REE-kuh). I like those and other nickname possibilities for a Mary/Marie first name.

Date: 2007-11-15 03:02 pm (UTC)The only problem I'd see with Mary Katherine is that the narrator in the famous book We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson is named Mary Katherine, and, well, she's kind of creepy. (Jackson also wrote the short story "The Lottery" and the book The Haunting of Hill House.) I love the book, but if you're worried about associations at all, I'd worry about that one just because she's, well, CREEPY.

Date: 2007-11-15 03:13 pm (UTC)Yeah, I don't get those either, especially with John being a short name already, so technically not even needing a nickname.

I've also heard Mary Louise, Mary Margaret, Mary Ruth, Mary Esther, Mary insert-biblical-name-here.

Date: 2007-11-15 10:10 pm (UTC)I've heard two I thought were really interesting: Mary Canon and Mary Sebastian. One I really liked was Mary Evelyn. And I've known a bunch of Mary Beths/Mary Elizabeths and a Mary Anne.
