I'm quite fond of names that start with a plain or short first name and have a rich middle name (examples: Ivy Josephine, Jade Evangelina), so I'm kind of intrigued by the possible combinations with Mary as a first name.

So far, I've seen
Mary Katherine
Mary Virginia (possible reference to the Virgin Mary?)
Mary Elizabeth
Mary Cherry (on tv show Popular)

So what are the most interesting you've heard or you would suggest? :)

Mary cherry is really nice. I love unusual names hence why i picked honey for a girl.

I immediately thought of my niece. She has a slightly unusual name, but it suits her.

Mira Isabel

according to thinkbabynames.com Mira is of Latin, Slavic and Hindi origin, and its meaning is "wonderful; peace; propserous". It also means 'to look' in spanish.

My sister was nearly named Mary Francis (as a double first name).
Instead she's Mary Catherine (as a first and middle).
Mary Christine is pretty.

I know a (German) girl named Marie Elizabeth who goes by Marielle (Muh-RILL-uh) and one named Marie Catherine/Katherine (dunno which) who goes by Marike (Muh-REE-kuh). I like those and other nickname possibilities for a Mary/Marie first name.

My mother's name is Mary Jane... much to the dismay of my grandmother, who didn't know what it meant.

I've always liked Mary Margaret. And Mary Patricia.

Mary Margaret is pretty to me too, but everyone I mention it to brings up that Mary is a shorter version of Margaret, which is putting me off. :(

I like Mary Katherine and Mary Elizabeth. I had a friend in high school named Mary Elizabeth who goes by Mary Beth. I've always liked it:)

The only problem I'd see with Mary Katherine is that the narrator in the famous book We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson is named Mary Katherine, and, well, she's kind of creepy. (Jackson also wrote the short story "The Lottery" and the book The Haunting of Hill House.) I love the book, but if you're worried about associations at all, I'd worry about that one just because she's, well, CREEPY.

I think there are people who call people named Margaret "Mary" as a nickname, but that's like saying that John is a nickname for the name Johnson; it technically is, but they're both entirely different names as well.

I know, it IS far fetched, but it still happens. My grandmother is named Margaret and she's been called everything from Peg to Marg to Maggie to Meg to Mary, and I think Peg is much more far fetched than any of the others, haha.

I also don't get "Jim" for James, "Chuck" for Charles, or "Jack" for John.

Mary Lou is my grandma.
And Mary Lois is my Great Aunt (Hey, guess my religion)!

I've also heard Mary Louise, Mary Margaret, Mary Ruth, Mary Esther, Mary insert-biblical-name-here.

No one has ever, ever mentioned that book to anyone in my family, and my sister has been Mary Catherine for 18 years. So I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

And secondly, the MK initials are cute, but I definitely prefer Catherine with a C, and I call my sister MC all the time. I actually call her MC-dub, because our last name starts with W. Haha.

since mary is a classic and traditional name, i'd probably pair it with something more current or interesting, like mary adria or mary elise.

My step-sister is Mary Lorraine, my aunt is Mary Charlotte. I think both are lovely. :-)

My sister is Mary Brett. I've also heard Mary Catherine, Mary Claire, and Mary Margaret (friends of my mother's. I haven't seen them since I was about 4, and I remember wondering if they were sisters, but I don't think they are...that'd be weird, lol). Then another friend of my mother's is Mary Temple. I've also heard Mary Anne (though I think I prefer Marianne), Mary Alice, Mary Beth (not Mary Elizabeth, just Mary Beth. I think she went by Beth though), and Mary Rebecca, who went by her full name.

I think Mary Cherry is ALSO a reference to the Virgin Mary, if you get my drift ;) I loved that show.

I've heard two I thought were really interesting: Mary Canon and Mary Sebastian. One I really liked was Mary Evelyn. And I've known a bunch of Mary Beths/Mary Elizabeths and a Mary Anne.

My grandmother was Mary Louise, as were several of her older female relatives. My great-great aunt on that side went by Maeta to avoid a little of the confusion. My grandmother alwasy just went by Mary, although my brother once (impudently) addressed a Christmas gift to her as "Mary Lou".

Mary Margaret, Mary Catherine, and Mary Elizabeth all sound very Catholic to me. Which is neither good nor bad, really; it just is.

I had a friend named Mary Katherine (Mary Kate) and I have a teacher named Merry Lynne. I much prefer Merry to Mary! I love the name Merry Abigail.

All of my aunts are named Mary (three), though I only know one is Mary Patricia.
