It was my mothers middle name, I had never heard of it before her. And I really want to carry on something from my mother!

That was my question, pronunciation. Either way, combining the words "man" and "ass," then adding an "a" to make it look like a feminine name...I would never do it. Maybe as a middle name of she really wants to carry on the name from her mother, but never as a first name for me.

I don't know why, but it reminds me of the word menace. However. If it means a lot to you, you should use it. It does have a nice sound; I dislike the name Vanessa because of my general aversion of the letter V, and this takes that problem away, leaving a name that really does have quite a cadence to it. And again, a family name is always a good name in my opinion.

I find that a lot of names actually sound very different with my accent. For instance, I'd never think of ass, because it's arse for us and sounds nothing like what's in the name, haha. Wacky accent antics!

How do you get Man-ssa from Manessa? Why put the E in there if you are going to ignore it? That just seems like it would cause a lot of confusion. Other then that, I guess it's not so bad, I don't care for Manssa if that's how you say it. Manessa is nice, though.

People are going to pronounce it Man-essa. If you want it pronounced Man-sa, then I'd spell it that way, otherwise you are setting your child up to be correcting every person she comes across.

Somehow, Mandy's... different (I'm not just saying that to not offend you, I actually think it's cute). The "man" part doesn't seem so obvious. But it's the first thing I thought of when I saw "Manessa." I can't really explain it.

How about Anessa? I think that's so pretty and is close to manessa but gets rid of the "man" part. Her nickname would probably be Anne or Nessa. Just a suggestion. =) I like the name a lot either way.
