I've liked the name Abner for a girl since I was like 8.

Hahahahahahahaha, for some reason this made me think it was like...Alcoholics Anonymous introductions or something.

Abner is awful on a girl. Seriously.

It seems really masculine to me.

And lol at the comment above me.

My sister liked it for a boy. It reminds me of a pig. Specifically the pig from Hey Arnold.

Well, I guess it's also better than making up a feminine version of Abner, like Abnerette/Abnera/Abnerina/Abnerelle/Abnergail/etc.

So is Fnwirwjaifna, but would you name your kid that?

Weird. Any reason why?

It's not really comparable. Abner is much easily pronounced than Fnwirwjaifna. Abner is also a rather popular Amish name. I am not sure what Fnwirwjaifna is. Quite possibly it is deemed as pretty in some cultures.

I wouldn't name my child Fnwirwjaifna because I don't really like this name. If I liked it, I would surely consider it.

I couldn't picture it on a girl. I have a good guy friend named Abner, and I think that's the only reason I don't hate that name. lol.

the comic strip "little abner" has a pig in it but i don't know it's name.
the cartoon "hey arnold!" has a pig named abner.

Isn't the one from the Garfield cartoon Abner too? Or did I just make that up? Off to wikipedia...

Well, Abner literally means "father of light", and I don't love the idea of naming a girl a name that has "father" in it. Why not Abigail for a girl, or maybe something that means "light"?

Abner is a boy's name. (http://www.babynames.com/name/ABNER) Not one I'd choose for either gender.

It means "beautiful delicate flower with barbecue sauce on the side".

I'm not adding anything new here, but it seems very masculine to me too.
Maybe as a middle name? Or, if you really want to make it a first name, combined with an incredibly feminine middle name?
