I was flipping through a couple of my favourite books when I was younger, when I came across one that had a character named Gavin.

I think it's a really great name, but I can only see it on a little boy (probably a little biased because of the book).

What do you guys think?

That wasn't by any chance a book by Kit Pearson, was it?

I have a hard time seeing it past the teenage years.

Yes, I loved that book! That's where I got my favourite name, Norah.

Well actually I first think of Gwen Stefani's husband, Gavin Rossdale.

Ah good one. I was trying to think of someone.

I know (of) a hockey player named Gavin who is like..19-ish. He's the only Gavin I could think of.

It makes me think of Gavin Newsom, the mayor of San Francisco, and Gavin Rossdale. I've also met a couple kids named Gavin.
It's not a bad name, but sometimes it sounds a kind of uppity to me.

Yes, it's Scottish and Welsh. Lots of Gavins in the UK. I think it's not a bad name. Makes me think of soccer players, haha.

Gavin, very good boy name.

I'm weary of boy names being used for girls, because my first name is a boys' name. It's French, so really only French people would recognize it as a male name, but basically it would equate to naming your daughter "Robert" or "Bernard"; a name that absolutely cannot be used for a girl.

To avoid complications/confusion/being insulted/being hurt like I have been my entire life, I have been going by my middle name for three years now.

I really try to caution parents when choosing a boy name for their daughter, thinking it will be "cute", when they really don't realize what kind of impact it can have on their child...

Gavin is my favorite male G-name, behind Gabriel. It would be cute on a kid, but I don't think it would be too far of a stretch to see it on an adult. Although the only adult Gavin I actually knew was a total stoner-surfer, so I don't have the best mental image of an adult Gavin...

My ex was Gavin, so I don't have great associations with it. I do like the name, though.

Just the fact that you felt the need to specify it was a boy... I figured I'd throw that in :P
